LSU Wraps Up Non-Conference Slate With 90-62 Victory Over Southern Miss

BATON ROUGE, La. – The LSU men’s basketball team defeated Southern Miss, 90-62, on Monday night inside the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.
With the victory, LSU improves to 12-1 overall. Southern Miss falls to 7-7 on the season.
The Tigers opened the game strong, setting the tone early with a three-pointer from Pablo Tamba. The early basket sparked a 13-2 run as LSU built the momentum. The Tigers carried an 11-point lead into the break after solid defensive pressure to limit Southern Miss. LSU shot nearly 47 percent on 15-of-32 shots and drained five treys. The Golden Eagles shot 11-of-30 (36.7%) and knocked down just two three’s.
In the second half, LSU extended their lead by 28 points, outscoring Southern Miss 49-32. The Tigers shot 56.7 percent from the floor on 17-of-30 shooting and were 12-of-18 (66.7%) at the free throw line. LSU also tallied 25 rebounds, primarily on the defensive end, and 8 assists.
Dedan Thomas Jr. and Michael Nwoko led the Tigers with 22 points. Thomas shot 8-of-11, while Nwoko shot 10-of-13. Max Mackinnon scored 15 points on 6-of-16 shooting and three treys. Pablo Tamba tallied 15 rebounds.
The Golden Eagles were led by Tylik Weeks with 12 points on 3-of-10 shots and 6-of-8 free throws.
The Tigers are back in action Saturday, Jan. 3 as they travel to face Texas A&M. The game will tip off at 3:00 p.m. CT at the Reed Arena in Bryan-College Station, Texas.
