SEC commissioner Greg Sankey announced Friday that the leagues Baseball Conference Tournament will remain in Hoover, AL after a unanimous vote. Per The Advocate:
quote:

Hoover beat out four other contending sites: Metairie (Zephyr Field); Memphis, Tennessee (AutoZone Park); Nashville, Tennessee (First Tennessee Park); and Jacksonville, Florida (Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville).

The tournament has been at the Hoover Met, which sits just a few miles from SEC headquarters in downtown Birmingham, since 1998.

Joke. An absolute joke. New Orleans has more hotel rooms and tourist stuff to do. That Memphis park is arguably the finest minor league park in the country. Don't knkw much about J-Vill, but its in the water for Memorial Day weekend.

Did they say why the committee voted unanimous to stay? Hotel rooms? No. Things to do during tournament? No. New stadium with suites? No. Politics and money? Yes. It's ashame the other cities that put a lot of time and money into preparing their bids never had a chance.

If anyone thought for a second that they would move the tournament from Hoover, they were nuts. I really wish they would have come up with a rotation for different sites to host every year. Oh well.
