LSU junior outfielder Greg Deichmann was hit by a pitch during a scrimmage on Friday night and will need surgery, according to The Advocate:
quote:

The pitch hit Deichmann near the ear flap of his helmet. He had a CT scan late Friday night, and on Saturday morning coach Paul Mainieri said in a text message, "We think he probably has a fracture in his cheekbone."

Mainieri declined to speculate on the severity of the injury or whether Deichmann would have to miss time.

Deichmann's father, Greg Deichmann Sr., told local author Jeffrey Marx that Deichmann broke three bones in his cheek and would require surgery. The Advocate confirmed that report.

Kind of curious about who threw the pitch.

It was Lange. They only made it through 3 innings and they quit practice for the day. Apparently bad play by everyone and Mainieri was pissed/frustrated with play.

Stop practicing now or we won't be able to field a team! 2 players out in a weeks time. Our chances of winning a championship are dwindling and we haven't even played a game! Too many players getting injured in practice in all sports. I know injuries happen, but at least make it count in a real game and not just practice! Very frustrating!

It is frustrating and it is a concern, but I think you're taking it a little too far.

Why don't you get in the batter's box and demonstrate for everyone?
