LSU Signee Logan Schmidt Reveals MLB Decision

LSU signee Logan Schmidt announced Sunday that he will not sign with the Cleveland Guardians after being selected in Round 2 of this year's MLB Draft. Per Baseball America:

Schmidt, a five-star recruit and Baseball America’s No. 7 player in the 2026 high school class, will instead choose between honoring his commitment to LSU and spending next season at a junior college. Enrolling at a junior college would make him eligible to reenter the draft in 2027, while joining LSU would keep him out of the draft until 2029 under the current rules.

Multiple sources told Baseball America that Golden West College in Huntington Beach, Calif., is among the possible destinations should Schmidt pursue the junior college route.

Schmidt originally belonged to the 2027 draft class before reclassifying last year, adding another premium arm to an unusually deep group of high school lefthanders. He was still 17 on draft day but already possessed the physicality and polish of a more advanced pitcher, with a 6-foot-4, 215-pound frame, a repeatable delivery and the strike-throwing ability to project as a starter.
