Negative ghostrider. Anyone who wanted to keep their kids away from other toddlers who had aids were insensitive homophobics. Even though nobody knew much about aids, back then only reactionary conservatives wanted to quarantine people who had a potentially fatal condition.

Well well well. Here we have the standard recoil from an unknown danger.
Granted, there is no shortage of odd response to this situation. I am far more forgiving of a layperson's paranoia regarding Ebola, than I am of the CDC's blithering incompetence in addressing it. Frankly, given the latter, a little "standard recoil" may be a healthy response.

This is turning into a fun experiment of seeing how many people you come in close proximity with while travelling! Fun!

AIDS fluids are different than Ebola fluids. Toddlers do exchange the types of fluids that cause Ebola to spread. For example, sneezing on another person is enough to potentially transmit the disease.

Well, toddlers bite each other as well. To this day, I'll never understand why AIDS was treated the way it was. Back in the 80's, everyone was going to get AIDS, but it's perfectly OK to keep doing what you're doing, WHEN NOBODY REALLY KNEW WHAT WAS GOING ON. Why not be conservative until we have it figured out?

this seems real smart. let people monitor things on their own

Unless he's way far along, he will survive. CNBC had a former cdc higher up on and he said with our medical care, it's pretty easy to cure. Also said its pretty difficult to contract until the person is oozing his insides. The host had a connection to a biochemist, who didn't want his name mentioned, but he said the same thing and that he was more concerned about it mutating and going airborne in Africa.

The family left their home in Dallas, even after being officially requested to stay home. I feel totally safe in the way this is being handled.

Gov't would be justified in shooting these individuals if they try to break quarantine. This is a national health emergency. Obama's dumbass can take the time to do NCAA brackets and comment about Ferguson,MO and Trayvon, but silence on this BS. Guess he sympathizes with a fellow African hell bent on destroying this country.

WTF are you talking about? I was her tennis partner today for 3 hours.

You were scared that your friend's husband had ebola because he came back from africa with flu like symptoms. Then today you played tennis with his wife who has obviously had close contact with him. And you did this before he even went to the doctor? What the hell is wrong with you and your friends?

Come on, really? When we played this morning, he had only been back at the house for about 12 hours. Only approximately 6-8 of that was with the 2 in the same room as he was sick and she was busy taking care of the kids. The doctors have them a strict protocol to follow until he came into the office.

Even if he does have Ebola, she had no symptoms and wouldn't be contagious. I did (half) jokingly nix the hugs, high 5s & sips of my beer but even that was a tad dramatic. It's not like I licked the sweat off her arms or anything. She didn't sneeze or cough. There was no blood. She didn't pee on me. She just kicked arse on the court today and helped us nail down 1st place.

Actually, this is starting to remind me of Aids, but more like the 90s when people wouldn't touch or be in the same room with an HIV+ person despite research showing it couldn't be transmitted that way.

Good for you. You seemed awfully nervous about it yesterday. I would just be careful to not schedule the next doubles match until next month... and even then with one of those stick on thermometers on her forehead.

Oh, I was nervous yesterday but that was bc I didn't know what I was dealing with. I thought the same as many and pictured a quickly spreading black death sweeping the U.S. I can deal with what we know now.

That said, we complete every week and I'm super happy next week is my bye week. He should know what the Dr says 2 weeks from now & I can bench her if I get nervous again

(Not to be gloomy, but if he does have Ebola and he is as sick as you say, he needn't worry about waiting two weeks for the doctor. He will know one way or another before Monday.)

Yup. I can't go there. His symptoms started on his return trip so it's only been a couple days. Still, would be helpful if they had something similar to a rapid strep or flu test. But they are true Canadians and are just kinda "meh" about the whole thing anyway. All they could do is isolate him and treat the symptoms.

Thanks to the PTboard for all the info yesterday!

If you get a trophy you have to take a pic and make it your new avatar. That way the Poli Board can share in the victory!

Your ignorance shown in the comparison above amazes me and really pisses me off. Ebola can be spread from sweat. I know you're trying to act all cool and think its no big deal, but what you did was very stupid.

Yes, Ebola can be spread by sweat once a person has symptoms. As I said, they followed a strict protocol from the time she picked him up from the airport and it had been hours since he had returned home. The doctor agreed she was fine to play, published info said she was fine and common sense precautions really made this no big deal.

Sorry if that comparison pissed you off but it's kinda the same thing here. She was unable to give me Ebola yesterday. If you are a doctor or medical researcher familiar with Ebola, I'd be happy to hear why you disagree with his doctor, her doctor, my doctor & published information.

As for me "trying act all cool", my posts referenced in this thread from the day before were hardly dismissive of the possibility of her exposure. But then I got information from medical professionals that assured me playing tennis with her was absolutely safe. Furthermore, I have no need or desire to try to be cool on a board where I am a frequent poster & most know how I respond & react to situations. You, on the other hand, have been very hostile in your 2 posts and have called me ignorant twice without any qualified data to show me how my medical advice was inadequate.

The one good quality of conservatives is , because of their innate distrust of govt and the media, they rarely fall for the flash and trash fear mongering the media resorts to for ratings and to sell papers. A good example are the 35,000 walrus which have come ashore in Alaska bc of thinning ice and GW. Liberals are burning up FB and message boards. Here, no care.

But ISIS and Ebola fear mongering have taken over conservatives like nothing I can remember. With Ebola we're talking about one case and no deaths in the US and this board is wall to wall Ebola.

So what has gotten the conservative panties in a wad?

Well the MSM is running their usual scare pieces to gin up readership and viewership but the Right Wing media have taken that ball and run with it. Why? They know their listeners and viewers are too smart and cynical to fall for MSM scare tactics. It's very simple and we see it's in every thread on this board.

I think the seriousness of the disease itself is a factor.
