re: Bernie's bewilderment toward a question asked about resentment from Whites - mmcgrath
It's really an incredible thing. Every election cycle, Republicans pretend to be morally superior. The "honest ones", while painting democrats to be liars and thieves. I never got any forwarded emails back in the 90s that Bob Dole was the antichrist or lies about GWB misquoting scripture ...
Has your opinion of John Kasich gotten better or worse since you got to know him and his policies since he launched his campaign?
His politics were pretty good, but there was one over the top Trump lie response early on (War on Drugs?) that kinda lost me. However, as I have gott...
Well that might be another chunk of the all other spending but cuts can still be made. But they won't.
Considering the lower cost of living and GDP and the fact mineral royalties provide an additional source of revenue to the state, our per capita taxes, like our state spending, should be lower than the national average. re: We can cut our way out of our budget problems without raising taxes - mmcgrath
You're welcome. From that same link it also has a chart for state tax collection per capita. That list includes "Property Taxes, Sales and Gross Receipts Taxes, License Taxes, Income Taxes, and other state taxes not classified elsewhere" so it may be more reflective. In that list, the US average ...

re: We can cut our way out of our budget problems without raising taxes - mmcgrath
According to JBE, we have a projected $870 million budget deficit. U.S. state average per capita spending is $5,457 (in 2014). Louisiana per capita spending is $5,867.
Those numbers include federal funds and bond issues. Federal funds alone account for about 45% of the revenue and spe...
