Did the president flub his own example?
Yes. But then, this is the man who in the past has said that pediatricians were choosing to do a tonsillectomy rather than treat a sore throat with medicine because the surgery pays more than prescribing meds. So, aside from accusing your child's doctor of unethical practices, he also demonatrated a failure to recognize that pediatricians are not surgeons, cannot peform a tonsillectomy, and in fact LOSE potential income when that patient walks out of the door to visit the ENT and have the surgery done. But sometimes, you send them for the procedure, because they meet the criteria for tonsillectomy, so recommending this treatment is the right thing to do, both medically and ethically. Since then, I find it hard to take Obama seriously when he describes any cost-cutting plans he has for healthcare, because they stem (at least in part) from a place of ignorance. LINK
