Watched this on Netflix last night and I thought it was great. A great tale where at first its a man helping a down syndrome guy find his way but by the end, its the down syndrome guy helping the regular guy find his light again.

Its got all the best things:

Fire
Special needs people
Wrestling
Boats

Joking aside, its a Good movie. I would recommend it. Especially if you need a movie to watch with the mrs.

I liked it as well.

My only beef is that they should've more slowly developed the relationship between Shia LaBeouf and Dakota Johnson. As it was, they went from majorly at-odds with each other (which was natural considering the circumstances of how they met) to friendly and lovey-dovey in like eight minutes of screen time.

Loved it when it first aired on cable and the wife and I saw it. Zack Gottsagan, the guy with Down's Syndrome, did a fantastic job starring in that movie.

Fun movie to watch and I've seen it a couple more times over the years.

Seeing crusty old Bruce Dern early in the movie helping Zak escape from the nursing home was fun to watch as he's being coy about how he pulled it off.

Reminded me of Sgt. Schultz on the sitcom "Hogan's Heroes".

"I know nothing"!!!

My beef was that they got romantically involved at all. She seemed like a fairly normal person, why would she ever be interested in a homeless, jobless drifter? If they wanted to go that route, they should have either made her more like him or, like you said, expanded on that story.

Luckily, that storyline was a tiny sub plot that didn't really affect the overall story.

I mean if he was just a rugged crab fisherman, then I could see the appeal of his manliness. But he was quite literally drifting down a river on a DIY raft while being pursued by other ruffians that wanted to kill him. That doesn't exactly seem like an appealing person to attach yourself to.

I can’t believe they did the throw. It was kinda comical for what was happening at the same time. I didn’t quite know where they were going with that.

I'm a big wrestling fan, but IDK, I thought it was just OK. The ending where he throws him out of the ring was a little too over-the-top, pardon the pun.

Yea it was an out of nowhere "suspension of belief" thing you had to do with that.

My kids (all ages) loved this movie and Rule #1 is a standard since.

Blind black dude is my favorite, “I knew y’all was white, I could smell ya.”

I recently rewatched it when it hit Netflix again. I love it for being a fun, feel good movie that has a knack from stopping just short of taking itself too seriously at times.

The only thing that would make it better for me is if it was based in South LA
