My wife and I recently tried St. Andre cheese and we love it. $18 a pound, but it's a delicious treat once in a while.

I don't know if its "gourmet" but I'm a fan of Coastal Brand Cheddar. Its an English cheddar that by one means or another ends up with some calcium crystals in it. Has a very distinctive flavor and crunch to it.

Eh, St. Andre is an industrial cheese. Tasty, but not worth the price for a mass produced product (to me). If you like triple-cremes, try Cowgirl Creamery's Mt. Tam. Martin's sells Mt Tam halves, and St. James Cheese Co might slice one up for you as well. Whole Foods usually has it as well. Mt Tam

If we're talking industrial/mass market cheese, I keep buying and eating the Coastal cheddar sold at Costco. It's abt $8/lb, but it "eats" like a far more expensive cheddar.

It comes and goes out of stock at St. James, but the brillat-savarin triple cream with a layer of truffles is pretty fantastic stuff.

I don't know much about industrial cheese, but I do know the more you pay for it, the better it is.

(Am I playing the food snob game right?)

Probably not gourmet enough, but I enjoy the Seaside Cheddar from Whole Foods.

I just tried taleggio for the first time the other day. Smells like feet, but has a really good rich taste.

I like a lot of goat cheeses too, especially the ones with honey.

I used a goat cream cheese in a dip yesterday. I didn't think it tasted much different than regular cream cheese

I hear they use truffle oil instead of actual truffles?

I like most cheeses, but I'm partial to the Pecorino Fiore Sardo at St. James.

Very good stuff. We visited the store off Hwy 1, north of San Fran, last summer.

Don't they have a. Shop in the ferry building as well? Been to that one.

Did y'all drive all the way to Stinson beach on 1? The beach just south of there is one of my favorite places. Red rock beach is the name I think. Awesome bouldering on a nudie beach. Totally trippy, insanely beautiful.
