Since 1999, Notre Dame is 1-20 against top ten teams.

They are 4-11 in bowl games since 1995. All 4 wins have all came in the last 6 years though, three of these coming against unranked juggernauts - Rutgers, Hawaii, Miami. The fourth being a December bowl game against a barely ranked 8-4 LSU team who had a DC with one foot out the door already.

They are 0-4 in BCS bowl games. They kept it close (somewhat) in one of these games, when they lost by 14. The other 3 losses were all by 27 or more points. Combined score of their 4 BCS games is 158-57.

I will add more facts to the OP if given, I came across all of these from Wikipedia in 10 minutes. It truly blew my mind. If anyone would like to argue that there is a more overrated program in CFB please lol at yourself and then exit this thread. It isn't close. But the 40's were cool, grats on that ND.

Updated with results so far this season.

All that NFL talent and big time recruiting classes though

At what point does ND have to actually do something on the field to justify their ranking?

never, because they're notre dame. I don't get it, and it's infuriating that's the way it is, but there's nothing to be done. It should have been obvious when the BCS was formed that in all these rules and stipulations that there was an asterisk for "*or notre dame" that they aren't playing on an even field as the rest of us.

They haven't beaten any top teams this year, albeit I think they were hosed against FSU. I saw a ton of picks on Saturday and none were called. Utah beat USC on a last second TD on the same play that ND ran. No flag.

You are right about those stats. But you omitted the most important fact - their coaches during that time-frame were Bob Davie, Ty Willingham, and Charlie Weis. What more needs to be said? That is really bad string of hiring.

They were, however, an awesome program in the 80s and 90s under Holtz.

Which would be horse shite.

3 road games the entire year and THAT schedule?

The Irish are the truest definition of the term "overrated"

4 BCS bowl game
1 natty title game

few schools can claim that.

as such, top 10-15 program.

no one is suggesting they are elite (top 5)

/end

also your post has zero to do with ND and Brian Kelly. in the last 3 years, ND ranks up there with anyone in terms of winning %

They have a huge fanbase and will bring in more money. That's the only reason.

Fair points, but how much of that has to do with scheduling and/or voting influenced by Notre Dame's "prestige"? It's not like the Irish didn't have free reign over who they played.

They aren't trash, but I find it hard to believe they should get a bid to the playoffs should they win out. (especially considering other teams in the top 10)

Grats on the wins against service schools + moral victories. Maybe someday it leads to one or two really good wins.

TCU deserves to be ranked higher, Ill give you that...

I fail to see many legitimate arguments for another team being ranked over them, however. Do you?

With that said, ND can still lose two more games (UCS and Louisiville). 50% chance they lose at least one of those IMO

So ND is garage and untalented?

Lets see, 2nd highest drafted last year (garbage)
Have WR and RB that every school wanted (garbage)
Went to FSU played close game (garbage)

Yes so by MSB take they are garbage, which means in reality they are pretty fricking good and this place is jealous of them and do not understand the allure of Notre Dame.

What win does LSU have that is "great"?

They beat Ole Miss @ home, like they are supposed to do.

The Wisconsin win is being praised by LSU fans as a great win, but when a B1G team beats anothe its a garbage win.

The hypocrisy is amazing.

thought you were posting facts in this thread?

Pls go. NDs had legit opponents and has never played an FCS school. (USC is the only other school who can say the same)
