re: How would Babe Ruth fare in the steroid era? - bayoujd
Good point. Some posters are focused on "today's athletes are so much better" line of thinking (which I don't really agree with in the first place). But more importantly, Ruth's swing mechanics and hand eye coordination are timeless, meaning that you could drop him into the box and his swing would a...

re: How would Babe Ruth fare in the steroid era? - bayoujd
He'd have been a stud. His swing is timeless and is better than 99% of current MLB players. He might not use a 40-50 oz bat nowadays but he would still mash. ...

re: Would the MLB Greats of Yesteryear be Great Today? - bayoujd
The best hitters certainly would. Mantle, Dimaggio, Carew, Mays, Aaron. Their swings would stand the test of time without a doubt. ...

re: Official "The Walk Off" Thread REPLAY 10:00 PM CT SECN - bayoujd
I was disappointed. There should have been far more coverage of the dramatics within the game. No mention of the controversial play to Cooley in LF? Furniss's ball into the RF corner when Nate Dunn ran through the stop sign at 3B and scored standing up? In the pre game radio show, Bertman ment...

re: Oneal lochridge done with baseball for now - bayoujd
When I read the description of his injury (L5 fracture I think?), I knew that spelled trouble. Back injuries are no joke, and common injuries from overuse and perhaps playing too much as a youth. Best of luck to him and hope he returns to playing....

re: MLB Draft Results (LSU Related) - bayoujd
Robertson is much higher than 40%. His rise has been incredible and I don't know that it can get any higher. He'll lose a good bit of leverage if he returns....

re: Jared Poche to Start Game 1 vs UVU - bayoujd
You're off here. Mainieri doesn't normally pitch his number 2 guy in game 1. But I felt he would do it here and it's the right move in my opinion. As good as this team has been, it has had spurts of struggling to piece together hits and runs. For that reason and the inexperience of our staff, that i...

re: Jared Poche to Start Game 1 vs UVU - bayoujd
It's a combination of Poche being a veteran and that this is not a particularly dominant LSU team that can steamroll anyone regardless of who we put out there on the mound....

re: My Non-travel ball playing nephew just made the HS baseball team - bayoujd
I have. And I haven't come across a college or high school coach who thought that highly of it. Most begrudgingly accept it as the status quo but almost all of them to a man say that kids know less and less about how to play the game. In short, they think they play too many games and spend far t...

re: My Non-travel ball playing nephew just made the HS baseball team - bayoujd
Ding ding ding. In travel ball, if you lose, no big deal you can play next week in a new tournament. Travel ball teams aren't really playing with a long term, end of season goal in mind (like Dixie Youth, Little League and Babe Ruth teams that play in "win and advance, or lose and your season is o...

re: Mainieri says that Gilbert will start Friday, but doesn't. - bayoujd
I agree and said it last week during the SEC tourney. This is not a particularly dominant LSU team so I think Mainieri will go a safer route in terms of picking a pitcher with experience in handling the pressure of a first game in the NCAA tournament. ...

re: Map out our postseason rotation - bayoujd
It wouldn't surprise me if Poche starts game 1 of the regional. This LSU team, while good, is not dominant and has won a lot of close games. If we are playing a dangerous 4 seed with a number of lefties, PM may play it safe and start Poche who has far more experience in that type of pressure game th...
