What's funny is that the people most freaked out about ebola are likely the same people that will turn around and be like "I ain't getting no flu shot".

Guess it's time for my flu shot rant. GET THE FLU SHOT. If you are a parent...get the shot. If you have elderly loved ones you are around frequently....get the shot. If you have family that has a medical condition that weakens your immune system(ex: receiving chemo for cancer)....get the shot!.

It's not just about you not getting the flu. It's about you not getting it and spreading it to others. Others that may not be able to get the flushot(ex babies). Again...get the shot.

I'll never miss another flu shot in my life as long as I don't develop an allergy. I think a lot of people *think* they've gotten the flu before and it wasn't so bad so they don't bother with the shot. Truth is, you likely just had a bad cold - the flu is completely debilitating. It knocks you flat on your arse for about a week and I would rather not experience that again.

Also, it's possible to develop some flu-like symptoms around the time period that you get the vaccine - that's how it works. It exposes your body to a denatured bug so your body can develop its own immune response to it.

Never had a flu shot, had the flu once in my life, about 15 years ago. It caused 1 of the 2 days of class i missed in my pre college career (chicken pox in kindergarten was the other day)

my three year old got the flu shot twice, and got some mild case of the flu both times. Doctor gave me a mean look few weeks ago when asked if i wanted to get my 3 and 1 year old the flu shot and i said no.

Well, just letting you know that the flu in kids can be very bad. Your 3 year old's illness may have been worse had he not received the shot.

Scruffy can't say.

Definitely recommend it for your kids though.

We are already seeing kids with the flu in our hospital. Had a few admissions.

Flu season has begun.

The flu shot is updated every year to cover the strains of the virus that are identified as spreading that year. If a new strain evolves rapidly or if they fail to identify a strain that ends up spreading, it can be less effective. But even still, the flu vaccine likely boosts your immune response to the virus at least somewhat, so that if you do get the flu, your symptoms will be less severe and won't last as long.

Yeah babies and toddlers lungs can't handle the flu on their own sometimes. I've cared for many kids with the flu at work.....it makes them really sick and miserable.

I hate all the flu shot propaganda that starts each fall.

Just eat right and take vitamin D.

I just can't believe how many people flock to get a shot every year that may be as much as 60% effective and has possible negative health consequences.

Yeah but an adult has a mature respiratory system that can usually handle the flu on their own at home with supportive care(assuming they are an otherwise healthy adult).

Babies (esp those that were premmies) may not be able to handle it by just care at home. They may need oxygen and other care. We see that with RSV(which is just like a cold if an adult gets it).

his illnesses were from the flu shot.
I take of half a day of work to bring him to the doctor. we go home that day, he's fine. I bring him to school the next day, we get a call b/c he's running a fever, i have to take another day off. He's still not feeling good the next day, another day off work.

It's like clockwork every time they get a shot.
I don't know who catches the flu. I know some of you work in hospitals and you see it a lot, but i don't know anyone that gets the full blown flu.

Why should i keep intentionally make my kid sick for 3 days just to hope he doesn't get the flu, when i could not intentionally make him sick, and still have the same hope he doesn't get the flu? People get colds, sometimes rough colds. I don't hear of people with the flu too often. I had it once, i'm aware of the difference bewteen the flu and a bad cold.
