2006 gmc 1500 a/c blower problem

I quit turning wrenches professionally around this time so figured I'd run it by the OT.

My co worker has a 2005 GMC 1500.

For some time his A/C blower motor would alternate which speed it would work on.
Sometimes on only 1 and 2 speed, others only on 3 and 5 ETC.

Well now it doesn't work at all.No blown fuses.

Back in the day when a blower would only work on high it was a bad blower motor resistor but now I don't know.

Does it sound like the control head?
Blower resistor?
Blower motor?

Bad resister, Chevy and GMC trucks from 2001-2006 are known for this. New replacment runs about 125$ for a GM part to 90$ for an aftermarket.

Bad resister
would be my guess also but the random speeds not working thing before it went completely out has me second guessing.

True, usually they just go out speed by speed , like you lose speed 2 and 4 and 1,3,5 still work but if a speed stopped working and then started again it could be something else.

not to hijack the thread but i am having a similar problem in an 07 suburban. air only blows really cold when the recirculate button is pressed. Everytime i get in and crank up the car i have to press the button to turn the recirc on for the air to get cold.

My 2006 GMC 1500's a/c doesn't work on 5, but blows hard enough on 4 for me not to care.

there is an electric motor mounted to the a/c box called the blend door actuator.
On that actuator is a plastic gear that connects to another big gear on the outside of the box.

Crawl under the dash on the drivers side and look straight up(as close to the center console as possible0 and you will see it.
Reach up and pull the gears back together and they will work again.

just fixed a similar problem on my truck, it was the ignition switch. Is the cruise control out as well?

When the resistor on my 96 crapped out I lost 1 then 2 and eventually 3 and 4 after a couple months. It's cheap and easy so I'd start there.
He could have the old mouse nest in the blower mod too.

As already said, it's the resistor. I posted the TSB a few weeks ago on here with the PN's for someone who asked a similar question.

I've been through this with my truck a few times already. At least it's an easy fix.

what if I told you he has a small heater core leak and the motor could possibly be contaminated?
