The fact that we’re still in contact with a satellite we launched into space in the 1970s is pretty fricking cool.

I know it’s a bit of hyperbole but there mere thought that we couldn’t actually launch one today and still receive transmission in 40 years is a sad reality of our current inefficiencies

It was probably looking for intelligent life, but it gave up and reported back to Earth.

Or it did make friends and is coming back to kick our arse.

Yet my RC car growing up couldn’t go more than 25 ft away from me and I’d lose the signal

That just reminded me of a time when I was a kid, and we coaxed a friend to put his RC car on the bumper of a recently stopped UPS truck in the neighborhood. When the UPS truck began to drive away, the kid's remote couldn't make contact with the RC car, and the UPS truck drove away it.

Yeah but NASA is full of DEI idiots that believe in manmade climate change.

Don’t worry, they have the opposing truck nut contingent who thinks we have no impact on the climate.

We just sent a probe to a fricking asteroid and brought a sample back to earth. It’s idiocy to think our space program hasn’t advanced by leaps and bounds in the last 50 yrs.

The failure of this country to make a huge investment into nuclear energy power plants would be comical if it weren't so disappointing.

It takes 22 1/2 hours to send a signal to Voyager 1, more than 15 billion miles (24 billion kilometers) away in interstellar space. The signal travel time is double that for a round trip

I like to think some guy has worked on it his whole career.

He started off giving numerous commands a day.

Now, he sends one, sits in his chair playing on his phone, gets his 8 hours and comes back for the reply the next day. Does the same thing.

I’m glad channel 8 out of NO, most famously known for a retired opossum head (Bob) for a meteorologist, is on top of this. I hope the local talent is playing it up like the Viper Radar that was The Top of The Line.

so they inserted jmp instructions for a custom dynamic linking scheme, on the fly, from like 20 light-hours away, across other running chips..and pulled it off without segfaulting the damn thing

Yeah, that's what I would have done.
