You can't tax a population but so much. You can't ignore all the taxes to justify making gas taxes one of the highest rates in the nation.

And you can't ignore the fact that the same corrupt, inefficient crowd that runs the state is the same crowd that is in charge of roads and bridges. They'll waste half the money on their cronies and in the people in BR will be stuck with one lane on I-10.

The fact that the situation has existed for thirty years and they build a bridge in St Francidvilke proves my point. I don't trust them.

I'd be ok with a toll road for a bypass north of the city (or a loop of some sort). I would rarely, if ever, have the need to use it either way. You'd basically have all of that I-12 traffic paying for it, much of which is not local traffic, and it would ease traffic on the surface streets.

I would be for tolls especially if private developers are involved.
People could choose to use the toll road as an option.

When the CCC had a toll, it was able to provide for its own maintenance, maintenance crew, patrol division, and engineers without a dime from state and had a surplus.

It was also used to pay off the bridge - and state law required that the toll be lifted once the bridge was payed off......how long did the tolls run on that bridge after it was paid for?

Imagine a BR loop with $10 toll to go across entire length.

Poors would avoid it.

Panama City, Panama has a toll highway around the city. Almost nobody uses it because of the toll. It is awesome.

This is such a good example of what Louisiana does wrong with our tax money. That bridge was such a dumb idea and a waste of money. There isn't a big enough population or traffic up there to remotely justify it when it is badly needed South of BR

Dude I live in a place nicknamed "Taxachussetts". We have tolls and somehow survive.

I believe Beltway 8 was supposed to be free once completed. Lol. Still waiting.

There was no language on the ballot that said it would become free.

Are you that old? I was probably in high school or junior high when it started. I am just regurgitating what I have heard many an older true Houstonian say.

Why don't we eliminate all road and gas taxes and make it all toll roads?

Like a cell phone plan, buy a bucket of miles every month. Have roaming, etc.

Would prolly cost less if it was all private.

No, I'm not that old, but I started digging into it after KHOU ran a Verify segment on it a week or so ago. It's a jacked up situation. The county paid for brochures to be printed that said it would be free once it was paid off, but they didn't include the language stating that it would ever be free on the ballot.

They're ironically also inclined to bitch about how terrible the roads are in LA.

The state doesn't use the fuel excise tax strictly for roads. We have a right to bitch until that happens, those greedy politicians of course have their grubby little hands in everything.

because Louisiana has not found a way to link your W2 to your toll tag.
