I'm sure somehow they are racist. Only privileged whites can pay tolls, baw.

It's viewed as just another tax, and people from LA aren't usually inclined to raise taxes.

They're ironically also inclined to bitch about how terrible the roads are in LA.

Yep where does the federal money go now for the highways?

We aren't getting the federal money because we can't match our share of state money to get it.

Basically, they have 90/10 projects where Feds pay 90% of cost, but we have to first match the 10% of our share. We can't do it, so we leave a ton of federal dollars on the table.

Now, if we were to place a toll on every bridge over the Mississippi not connected to the interstate, which that consists of only two(BR and Vicksburg) then we could have those bridges pay for their own maintenance and reallocate the state funds elsewhere in the infrastructure.

Or we could raise the gas tax.

We should do both.

Correction...we leave a lot of federal dollars on the table that gets reallocated to other states that do make their match in funds.

Imagine a BR loop with $10 toll to go across entire length.

Poors would avoid it. I could look at google maps traffic gridlock on I10 bridge while Im going 80 on the toll loop.

It would be glorious.

The politicians would steal the money and spend it on the poors

you liberals want to pay 90% of you income to taxes and fees and toll roads should be forced to live on minimum wage for a year and you would find out what its like for most of this country trying to simply survive and put food on the table

So, you're poor?

When the CCC had a toll, it was able to provide for its own maintenance, maintenance crew, patrol division, and engineers without a dime from state and had a surplus. Take away the toll, and the already stretched thin state bridge budget can't cover the cost of yearly painting it.

Thank you, Rep. Connick!

Can't install tolls on federal interstates.

Yes you can. Obama opened the door to states to look into doing that back in 2013 or 2014.

I thought the caveat to adding tolls to federal interstates was capacity (lanes) had to be added to the existing condition.

Toll roads give you another option, albeit at a price. If you don't want to take the toll, you don't have to. The Loop around Baton Rouge isn't meant for local traffic. It's meant to provide an alternative for heavy traffic going thru Baton Rouge to go around the city all while paying for the road.

In short, out of towners pay for the toll road. Take them off the interstate and Airline, you have less congestion on those roads for locals.
