re: Getting fiber today, what should I expect? - BigD45
[quote]Update from my earlier post... It occurred to me that I could probably just disable the wifi on the Uverse modem & connect my Nighthawk to it. I did just that and I was getting only slightly better signal. I moved the router from inside to outside the cabinet and and it's working much better....

re: Getting fiber today, what should I expect? - BigD45
When they installed mine, it only took the guy about 2 hours to do it. They installed a box on the outside of my house, and they drilled in through the garage to have access to power. Then, they used the Cat5e line I already had to come into the house. I had them put the gateway in my master bedr...

re: Cox Internet vs. AT&T Fiber - BigD45
I swapped from Comcast's 200 Mbps to it, and it blows Comcast out of the water 5 times over. It hasn't ever went down. I get 2 and 3 ms pings. My bandwidth is like 940 up and down to the local at&t server. Also, there is no data cap....

re: AT&T Internet-Wifi Question - BigD45
Which gateway did they install? Is it the Pace 5286ac? I have the Pace model, and mine covers my whole house with ease. I can also see my neighbor's network inside my house. You can log into the gateway to make sure the antenna radios are at 100, yet they may default at that setting. ...

re: Wiring a 120 year old house with Cat6 - BigD45
As long as any particular cable run isn't longer than 100 to 150 feet, he can see transmit speeds on his network up to 10 Gbps. Seeing that he spent a ton on Cat6, I'm willing to bet he has 10 Gb switches and network cards. The only bottleneck would exist within his computers....

re: How does sling rate against psvue? - BigD45
When I cut off the satellite and cable about a month ago, I did the trial for SlingTV, and it performed a lot better than it did back in mid-2015. I didn't experience any buffering, but I have 1 Gbps fiber internet with my Rokus hardwired. It buffered some when I tested it over WiFi. When the t...

re: Fixing up old Mac book pro with ram and ssds? - BigD45
Crucial makes great stuff. I would get the battery from MacSales. Then, the RAM is just wherever you decide to get it from. I've used Crucial RAM a lot, and I've never had any problems with it. Get 8 GBs, and call it a day. Their SSDs are nice as well. You won't see the full speed of an ...
