re: Why is LA so against toll roads?

We are not a rich state, but our gas tax is the same as Texas. We should be able to operate well with that don't you think, but we all know we can't. We need twice as much on a gallon of gas because we have so much inefficiency, waste and abuse to cover.
You can't compare our road maintenance needs to Texas.
We have more bridges, less stable ground for roads, and a vastly smaller population.
Not to mention the gas tax funds so much more infrastructure needs than Texas has. Like our levie system and canals. And ferries, maritime needs, ports.
We have vastly more funding needs than Texas.
And quit bringing general funding into a discussion of infrastructure funding. They cannot be reallocated to each other in this state. We need to rewrite the state constitution, but nobody will do it.
And I've been labeling the State Police as corrupt for years on here.
Don't bring that up now. When Jindal signed that, this website applauded the move. Y'all said it was great that the LSP was getting funds to help them "protect" us and deserved that money for pay raises. And new vehicles.

People know the truth. Little, if any, of the funds would actually be used to maintain the roads.

I love the Autobahns, I mean toll roads in Texas.

Oh yea, forgot to put that in my post.
Texas has same gas tax as us, and more tolls than we have bridges.

Can't install tolls on federal interstates.
Tell that to I-44 in OK.

Let me rephrase: we can't. We don't qualify.

Because if the state runs it anything like the Cresent City Connections toll for 25 years this happens -
Only 9 percent is used to pay off the bonds that paid for the second span, the ostensible reason to charge tolls in the first place. That debt will be retired two months before the tolls expire on Dec. 31, 2012.
The tolling operation is so bloated and inefficient that it actually costs $1.35 to collect a $1 toll.

You realise that it was completely self-sufficient? Didn't take a dime from the DOTD.

So, if this is the truth, I guess we are just stuck with the crumbling away system we have. Hope you like it. Have fund laughing about the "no loop" and the ever increasing traffic on the I-10 bridge.
It's not going to change without more money from a different source. Facts are facts.

Poors would avoid it.
I'm sure the government has some kind of card for that.

You aren't wrong in that those groups will reap some benefit, but before major improvements are made to the highways and bridges, those same groups will be involved. Do you think something is just going to shite another Miss. River Bridge? It's going to have to be designed and built and nobody on this earth is going to do it for free. Money is going to have to be collected from somewhere BEFORE that bridge shows up. Where do you propose it come from? I can tell you, no matter what you cut out of the budget, that kind of money is not there.

You've seen the responses on here.
And we rank dead last in everything. So of course nothing will change.

I keep seeing people say this.
Could you please provide examples of these misuses? I can't seem to find any on internet. I am looking though.

oll roads give you another option, albeit at a price. If you don't want to take the toll, you don't have to. The Loop around Baton Rouge isn't meant for local traffic. It's meant to provide an alternative for heavy traffic going thru Baton Rouge to go around the city all while paying for the road.
In short, out of towners pay for the toll road. Take them off the interstate and Airline, you have less congestion on those roads for locals.
Like I said earlier. La has too many stupid ppl to ever figure that out.

1. $60+/- Million from Gasoline Tax to LSP 2014-2015
I'm looking as well.

I've already stated: quit using the Jindal giving money to LSP as some gotcha.
That move was applauded on here when he did it and every time I've brought up how corrupt the LSP is, they have been defended to the extreme.
I've been denouncing this for years. But now y'all want to use something conservatives loved at the time to argue its dirty and so we shouldn't raise the gas tax again?
Come on.

It's not a gothca, it's an example of misuse of funds. Do you think such a reallocation couldn't or would not happen with the $.17 (+3%/4yrs)/gallon bill that was just killed?

The problem with your argument is this: it's not a misuse of the funds according to the state constitution.
It's bullshite that Jindal gave it to them so they could have across the board payraises, but the money was allocated to be used by the state police to help their budget.
I believe this new tax labeled exactly what the money could be used for and not go into that fund.
Any money above the old rate was earmarked only for infrastructure spending.
