Man I guess iconic is one way to describe it.

The Landmass.

We have Memphis to the north, New Orleans to the south, and Mobile to the east.

Low cost of living, nice weather, great food and music.

It should be a requirement that you can't post in this thread unless you have actually been to every state in the South.

Although that would eliminate 90% of the posters.

Does it really need to be EVERY state?

Texas isn't part of the South. Texas is Texas. Georgia is the correct answer.

Georgia is cold in the winter and nasty. I am a fan if the deep south and love Louisiana and Mississippi. I also like the beaches of the panhandle.

West Virginia? Lord no.

McClellan did us a favor.

I love my Commonwealth but I'll go with South Carolina. Charleston is just about perfect.

Note: I pretty much use the Mason-Dixon line as my definition of "The South". As such, I don't include Virginia, Kentucky or Missouri as part of The South.

You might want to rethink your geography. The Mason-Dixon Line lies between and separates Pennsylvania and Delaware from Maryland. Virginia and Maryland are clearly SOUTH of the line.

I stayed in Charlotte from 96-99 and never had good BBQ. Their style of BBQ is terrible.

I have a couple of siblings who decided to stay there after my family moved back to Louisiana and they hate the food there. They leave Louisiana after visiting and take ice chest full of food back with them just to have Louisiana cuisine.

I can only imagine. I'm in Jackson, MS, so I basically just close my eyes and daydream as much as possible.

So that is why you are on TD so much.

Stopped in Jackson once for lunch. It was honestly the worst "city" I have ever seen in the United States.

It depends on if you include Texas as the south--i know you don't, but i know many who do. If you do, its Texas by a country mile

If excluding Texas--it's probably North Carolina but not by much. Pretty much every SEC state sucks arse

I think they are all great places to live, except for most of Alabama and pretty much all of MS and Arky. NC, GA, and FL would be my top 3 though

Georgia
North Carolina
South Carolina

I've been to every state in the south besides arky and Kentucky and I don't think they would make the list

From my experience:

TX/FL (I really don't consider either TX or FL to be "southern")

GA
NC
TN

LA
SC

AL
AR
MS

ETA: I've never been to KY

Mississippi is last. They don't have shite. I need a shower and Prozac after driving through that shithole.
