Louisiana is the obvious correct answer

It should be a requirement that you can't post in this thread unless you have actually been to every state in the South.
Although that would eliminate 90% of the posters.

Based on your criteria, yea, I agree it's N.C. Based on my personal criteria I would order them something like this:
1. Florida (the beaches more than make up for the lack of mountains)
2. Georgia
3. N.C.
4. S.C.
5. Texas
6. Louisiana
7. Tennessee
8. Alabama
9. Arkansas
10. Mississippi
Note: I pretty much use the Mason-Dixon line as my definition of "The South". As such, I don't include Virginia, Kentucky or Missouri as part of The South.

Come on dude. Kentucky is southern to the core

You realize that he Mason-Dixon Line runs across the southern border of Pennsylvania, right?

I would go with South Carolina just based on the golf courses. Btw party down south is coming on soon.

My LA brethren use daiquiri availability and consumption to qualify what is and what isn't "southern"
You will not get far posting something like facts in a thread like this.
Best? Best at what? Best at being Southern?

All those states are SOUTH of the Mason Dixon, dude.

also, many of the things usually associated with "the South" are also ubiquitous to areas in Canada, Pennsylvania, and other areas far outside of the South

Just to flip peoples lids, I'll say Maryland. John Wilkes Booth would agree.

Kentucky and Florida are shitholes
NC is pretty but way too liberal and too many Yankees
Georgia is too dark
Give me Tennessee
