It's as bad as the COA fiasco. . Don't Legislators even know how to use Google? The money isn't for the Deaf. It's for the vendors. This was in 2015. Nola.com

Inspector General Stephen Street on Tuesday (June 2) released a report detailing what it said was unnecessary spending on contractors and equipment by the Commission for the Deaf.
quote:
The Commission for the Deaf spent almost $440,000 to distribute free telephone equipment to deaf and hard-of-hearing people in the state using private contractors, even though the Inspector General found that five other states distribute those devices without using contractors. If the commission ceased using private contractors, more money could have been spent on the deaf and hard of hearing for other services. The spending was in addition to nearly $517,000 in equipment spending.
Although the Commission for the Deaf allows for spending on sign language interpreters in emergency situations, 61 percent of the times that money was spent on interpreters was for non-emergency use. To authorize the payments, DeDual classified the spending as "other situations."
Contractors were paid $186,655 -- or about $150 per patient -- to schedule exams and verify income to determine whether deaf or hard of hearing residents were eligible for hearing aids. That expense was "avoidable," the Inspector General found, and meant less money was spent on the actual hearing aids for residents in need of them.
DeDual authorized nearly $6,000 in public funds to repay debts for customers of the Deaf Services Center, even though the commission had no obligation to repay that debt.

Passed 85-8.
But gas couldn't get 70 votes? This state is so backwards.
Yea because this is talking about who benefits.
If you can't see that the politicians know that 4.3 CENT tax a month can p
is a weeee bit easier to pass than a 20 dollar tax that has an impact on companies ability to do business.
You can't be helped.

We are losing big corporations because our infrastructure is so bad.
It's a big reason for them going to other states.

I agree with the cell phone tax. They are taking the $.05 cent landline tax and making it .0425 on all phone lines.
Like a buck or two for most people. Not even noticeable.

Name one company that would stay here if the TIMED debt is paid off.
Explain what company is going to relocate to Louisiana because we built a highway between I12 and Bush Louisiana. For a cool 200 million.
Louisiana is handcuffed in road spending from the 90s. You want to shell out money for infrastructure lol but what you would get is shite loads of money paying for pet projects in very rural areas of the state. shite that someone thought was a good idea a quarter of a century ago.

Well, TIMED is funded by its own 4 cent tax.
It has two more projects to be completed over the next 30 years.
But ok, stick to that argument.
Has nothing to do with the new tax or the current 16 cent tax for infrastructure.
And the Timed funds are prohibited from use for anything else.

How do they tax your cell phone bill? If you have a Louisiana area code? If your bill is mailed to a Louisiana address?
Posted on 6/7/17 at 8:48 pm to PetroBabich
I can't believe the COA tax passed, but Green Light 2 did not.
For those against these tax infrastructure improvements, how do you propose improving our roads in zbaton Rouge and getting a new bridge built without increasing the gas tax or passing the GL tax?

quote:Can you be clear? Is the 4¢ per cell number or 4% added to your total bill?
It's just 4 cents--pennies! But it's like office space--those pennies add up to line someone's pockets.

Move the zoo, tax the deaf for their services, find Huey Long's secret deduct box, use the actual gas tax money already being collected. Take your pick
Posted on 6/7/17 at 8:52 pm to Bullfrog
As I was only going by what was posted here, I can be no more clear
Posted on 6/7/17 at 8:59 pm to jwall3
Gotcha.
F'n politicians and lobbyist are quick to muddy the waters saying "just 4 cents" and leave out "per dollar".
Makes me want to run their lying face down a brick wall.
No to all confiscation of more of my money.

4.3 cents per month vs what is around 20 dollars per month for many people?
