Its sad that they even purposed a 17 cent gas tax on top of the highest sales tax in the country.

So she was recently removed, so all is well? The hell with using the funds we wasted for their intended purpose, we'll just raise taxes

The bill is expected to raise almost $5 million per year and will go to Telecommunications for the Deaf Fund. The new tax will more than double the fund’s budget from 2.3-million to 4.6-million.
Wait, so the they're already getting $2.3m. The cell phone tax raises $5m/yr. That's $7.3m/yr total, but only $4.6m is going to go towards helping these deaf people. Where is the other $2.7m going?

I knew about this story in 2015 before the IG even started looking into it. Naomi DeDual was like most politicians...more interested in keeping her friends pockets lined than serving the people her job dictated she serve.

I know two things about you:
1. You don't know any Deaf people
2. 4.5 cents / month breaks you

Uh, the investigation was started in 2012

This is not a good thing to say when you're trying to defend a tax that was implemented by politicians

Its not 5mil in new revenue, just 5 mil in total revenue since they are casting a wider net

Look at my edit on the last page...I hate politicians
But I know this tax is severely needed.
If you want to bitch about Politicians, especially in Louisiana, sucking the well dry to their benefit then sure...lets do that.
But to be this butthurt about 4.5 cents is just baffling to me.
Don't complain about it coming out...complain about politicians fricking it up.

I hope that he continues to frick this state and continues to overtax the people of this state.
Maybe next election his non-regular voter base will have learned their lesson for even backing this arse clown in the first place.
Any single person that voted for JBE can never bitch about his over taxation plans on this state. You get what you elected. JBE never hid his agenda or what he was ever about.

So is infrastructure truly crumbling? Am I to believe the reports on the roads and bridges that were released just before the gas tax was proposed earlier this year pre-session?? Any unbiased reports on road/bridge conditions out there? "If we don't get these tax increases there's a chance LSU football will be cancelled."
You can't be serious.
Every report gives our infrastructure poor to failing grades.
Our highway system is at the end of its original lifespan.

JBE is a single term governor. He has to realize this by now.

4.6 million for 78k Deaf and Hard of Hearing means is $59 dollars per person bro.
I'm not trying to tell you anything.
I know people that are deaf and or are hard of help that do not require public assistance. They manage on their own. You can't simply divide the number of deaf by the tax and say we only have 59 dollars per deaf person to spend.
The tax is for technical assistance for the indigent, not everyone right?
And again, is the extra money needed or not? I haven't seen you or anyone present a case that it is,
Besides if the tax brings in 5 million and the special fund gets 4.6 million, where does the extra 400K go? If it's needed for unfortunate and indigent deaf people fine by me, take it all for the deaf.

It's always Armageddon at the capital.
The pols tell us it's a crisis and then they raise taxes.
I've said it before, if they can spend 180 million on films, and an extra 200 million on nursing homes; they have more money than they need right now,

Yes i'm serious. Personally the roads I travel are fine IMO. But I don't sit in traffic in BR or on I-10, etc. for hrs/day, either.
As to condition, "grades", looks like LA is not alone with its infrastructure condition. I'm curious to know what an "a" grade would be like. ASCE's 2017 Infrastructure Report Card

To provide services for deaf people.
Does this include funding to the school for the deaf? I am just trying to think of the services they provide for the deaf to get an idea of what that cost..
But the one think we need is money for roads and bridges, which I am sure most people will agree.

Thanks for the information.
It appears like the COA, the people who are tasked to help poor deaf folks do not take care of their money nor do they run an efficient service.
Again we see a good idea, helping the deaf, enables govt. to help private contractors at the expense of the deaf folks.
But let's give em more ???
