Are you fat? Fitbit seems to be all the rage with the chunky crowd.

I love the speedy and I thought about buying a used one myself one day.

But I don't think I would like having to wind it every 2 days. I'll stick my with my Auto Marinemaster

Go to a reputable watch and jewelry store....try on several different brands and colors, pick the one you like.

Nice piece but way too common, as is the PO. If that is of no concern then by all means.

How common really?

I love the Sub but I see it daily. I rarely see Speedy's in the wild.

Omega Planet Ocean. (Comes in 42mm or 45mm, older ones were very black with an aluminum bezel, new ones are ceramic and kind of gray colored, pic below)

I 2nd this. I wear an Omega Seamster Planet Ocean in 45.5mm. Very solid piece. Very nice watch for the $$. I believe its right in your price range.

Gross. Of all the watches in the world you're going to let some buyer at a jewelry store narrow down your selection.

Sub is much more common.

Dallas has a huge automotive scene, Speedys are a fan favorite.

I am certainly a 'function over form' kind of guy. I could not see spending that much for a watch. I have a work watch, a play watch, a casual watch and a dress watch. Added together, probably less than $1000.00. If I impress someone or don't, and both happen on occasion, it will not be because I am wearing a certain piece of jewelry.

Having said that, I would look for an antique classic style. In general, I just like old stuff.

You could go real wild with it and get a birth year Speedmaster. Here's an ad for one that's already sold, but you get the idea: LINK

I'd go speedmaster. I dunno if I would do manual but I love that watch. I only wish (slightly) it had an exhibition back.

Do you have a Speedy?

Right now, I have a bunch of affordables, but may soon be in the market for a "grail", at least intermediate until I turn 40 maybe.

I like birth year Sub, a few year old sub, possible Speedy, Tudor, a few others.

Just wondering your opinion on having to wind it, seems like it would get old and an auto would be more reasonable.

True.

I live in Houston. And seeing one is rare.

OP Omega is a solid watch. And not a look at me watch like a Rolex. But it's your watch. If a Rolex will make you smile every time you look at it? frick what other people say.

This is what it boils down to. You are spending way too much for a watch. It needs to make you smile, or you're dick move a little. Or both.

Watchuseek and timezone were mentioned. They are great sites.

Also try watchrecon.com and chrono24.com. They a basically a kayak or Trivago of watch sites. They have everything. Some new, some second hand. Have Broke snoop on them before laying down money. If Broke still is a mod on some of the sites (I'm pretty sure he was on watchuseek for a while). Basically it's eBay rules though. Only buy from guys with many many posts and if someone has a Rolex Submariner for under $5000 be suspicious. Under $4000 laugh and walk away.

Breitling was mentioned. Panerai (second hand) is doable in that range. Bell&Ross. IWC (maybe all out of range though. Tag Heuer all are pretty much under $4000 so if one jumps out at you? Baume & Mercier.

Jomashop is a great place to get pricing ideas too. All are new watches. Jomashop is legit. And they have watches from $500,000 to $100. So you get a good idea of where you stand and what brands are unrealistic for your budget.

No, I have a Planet Ocean 2201.50 and a 1975 Seamaster Chrono 176.007. If I got another watch it would be a Speedy or the Explorer I.

Can't go wrong there. My birth year, '84, they made a matte dial 16800 Submariner that combines the good looks of the vintage ones with the Sapphire crystal of the newer ones. One day...

I'm on the fence. I think it'd be cool to have that as part of my daily routine, but I'd probably probably forget once a week or so. I have an app on my phone that tracks watch accuracy, Twixt, and my PO stays within a second/day. Something to be said for setting & forgetting.
