Seriously, go with a vintage Rolex. Find one that you love. Go on ur hunt to find a well working vintage one, and screw what anyone else thinks. Get something you love.

Nice piece but way too common, as is the PO. If that is of no concern then by all means.
I want to hang out in your circles. I only know of one other guy in Shreveport who wears a PO and never see any Speedmasters. Helps that the nearest Omega dealer is in Dallas.

This just screams "I'm 50!"

For me, I'd get a used Rolex submariner or GMT Master series.

I say you're all fricked in the head.

Depends if you're willing to go grey market or not, I wouldn't for this particular brand. ~$8k grey, >10 not.

Dallas scene and Shreveport scene is vastly different, I'll give you that. Maybe it's just me noticing them in my travels, L.A. and New York as well.

Now that all the watch weenies are in here I'll get downvoted for saying this but even since I've started liking watches, I only see going as far as making sure you get a sapphire crystal, good movement, quality materials and a look that you like. If it's a submariner, chances are you can find a watch like it that meet all of its criteria in another brand for 4 grand cheaper. I feel even at 30, I'm 10x wiser than me at 20. If I was 50, I would imagine if be more than wise enough to spend under 1000 on the watch and then go take a nice international trip for 4 grand.
But maybe your just looking for a heirloom... And maybe I should shut my mouth

You should get something different.
I'd recommend Breguet.

A watch that nice deserves a better band. I've got a $300 Seiko with that same band and although I really like my watch, it's not even close to the same category as that Blancpain.

A Rolex Submariner will be worth more than you paid for it in 20 years if you take decent care of it.

Very nice... I wouldnt go grey market either I'd be skeptical its fake altogether.

I'm telling you, the way things are going, you're going to need it.

Yes. Treat yourself to a fine watch that you can look at every day for the rest of your life and leave to someone when you are gone. Classy.
Look at Tudor for your price range. Sister brand to Rolex founded by same guy and a little more interesting designs. Stuff that the Rolex brand wouldn't allow but still classic. I have a Rolex and several others and am about to pull the trigger on a Tudor just for the styling.
