there's friendly people everywhere in the state from my experience. This is a really odd thing to base a move on, but I appreciate this spin on a LA city thread

here's my opinion on the ones that I'm familiar with.

Lafayette - pretty cool town. Not as much cultcha as most LA cities - yet. Goes boom or bust with oil like Houston used to.

Nola - some of the burbs are decent. There's a lot to do. The city is fairly dangerous and expensive.

BR - some nice burbs, terrible traffic, a little more middle class areas in South BR then you'll find in NOLA but not near as much to do. North BR is like visiting a 3rd world country. South BR is mostly decent with some big exceptions.

Shreveport/BC - Northeast Texas with a more corrupt government, casinos, higher crime and cultcha

it really is not all that important to be super close, or we would just live in Austin. would rather find the right place even if its a little further. seems to be a lot of Lafayette fans here though

Also in Monroe.
The drive to Monroe is shorter than I have now BR to BR

You're an agent, you should know the benefits. That said, go where she tells you to. Seems like she's calling your shot anyway.

My choice would be Lafayette also. Grew up around that area been gone from there along time. Everytime I visit my parents now I experience culture shock.

Considering how down the Lafayette area is due to the oil crunch, I doubt you'll have much success there. Baton Rouge is tough due to the flood, but there's a lot of demand/supply issues, so there is money to be made. New Orleans real estate is insane and only getting crazier. I would recommend going to one of those two places. Baton Rouge would be less of a culture shock. I recommend living around the Old Goodwood/Capital Heights area. Downtown would be nice too.

If you're not afraid of the boom/bust oil cycle, Lafayette really is a nice small city.

Tell me about your jobs and educations and I may approve you for Lafayette.

this thread would have gone a lot worse if it was about the state I would choose to live in

Lake chuck is good. It's booming right now. And is prob your safest option of the ones you named.

Collegedropouts and Mississippi aren't a big deal. Convince her to follow you there.

Of the list u gave. I would only recommend Laffy and LC. I have lived and worked in both and both are nice.

Romantic Catholic culture in South LA;
Protestant culture in North LA

Suggest you split the difference in Natchitoches which I have found to be very friendly/ hospitable.
