I'm 32, lived in BR, Shreveport, Lafayette, and from a small town called Franklin.

In Shreveport for 2 years after college. Would probably be the least culture shock, but it's a pretty boring place to live and no culture. I've always said if I wanted it have 5+ kids and go to church it would be perfect.

Was in BR for college and then after Shreveport for 4 more years. Hate br now and have no desire to live there again. Too big of a city for my taste and just not a fan of the people.

Wouldn't go into real small town Louisiana right now south of I10. The economy has been devastated and there definitely won't be any real estate opportunity.

Live in Lafayette now and love it. It's the size I want and has plenty of things to do. The economy has slowed, but housing is still doing alright.. Commercial reality isn't that great I'd imagine tho.

NOLA - grew up going there all the time. Have no desire to go at all even for a wekened trip anymore, there are far more safer places with just as much to do than to go there and risk getting held up.

Lake Charles - would consider this the dark horse choice besides Lafayette. I'm not as familiar with living there, but it seems like a cool place. On the water, golf courses, the casinos, good economy, new housing, closest to Texas.

I guess someone that would say this
quote:

Too big of a city for my taste and just not a fan of the people.

And

Too me, it just was. Slower pace of life. Different folks than from down south. Rednecks vs Cajuns I suppose.

People were nice and it was a pleasant place.

not really, but the OT hates every city in America besides the one that they live in, so I figured this may give me a more non biased view

Ill tell you this, don't buy in baton rouge. But buying outside of baton rouge isn't half bad.

We live 30 miles or so from BTR.

Prices are low. There is zero crime. If we want to eat at a different restaurant every night for a month, we can.

Commute into BR rarely takes more than 40 minutes.

If I drive into plaquemine to buy groceries, I'm like Norm from cheers.

Some call it politicking. I call it being friendly.

There's good people all throughout south Louisiana.

If I were you, I'd buy rural and commute in. I've lived in NOLA, asia, metairie, Georgia. I'll never leave Louisiana again to live.

You don't understand what it means for a city to have no culture?

Natchitoches. Hell Tom Hanks even said he was moving there when he retired because of all the help the locals gave him when he got a flat tire out there.

I sure hope they find whoever keeps sabotaging these celebs' cars across the country.

No, Roger stated that he doesn't understand the comment that Shreveport had no culture. I was wondering if he was commenting on specifically Shreveport, or if he doesn't understand what a culture-less city is.

Partial to LC. Grew up there but have lived in the Houston area for years. I don't know what your hobbies are, but fishing is good, casinos are some of the best in the state, eating is good. Good people. LC has decent medical care but is also only 2 hours away from the Houston medical center. Economy is booming. Maybe that equates to good real estate market? LC has the cajun influence but is not super cajun. Culture shock coming from Texas will be less than Laffy and surrounding area. I would look there or go much further east.
