Can you describe your circumstance a bit more. What neighbor hood and what school and the location of the school she would've had to attend.

I don't know what that has to do with anything, but I'll play...
This was actually when she was maybe 3 or about to turn 4. Magnolia Woods Elementary school was 2 blocks from my house. A recently retired EBRPSS administrator and educator, who lived across the street told me that it was not at all likely my daughter would attend the school even though it was in my neighborhood. She would be bussed to another location. Is that clearer for you?
We wouldn't have known what school she would attend, because she wasn't registered yet.

Nah bruh. Not really...

Which part.there are no neighborhood schools?,lots of folks in the neighborhood, particularly S. Baton Rouge use them?, there is still desegregation promoting forced bussing?

I'll admit my post may have been was shortsighted.

Yes this is very common in the AP. I watched a younger sibling have to go across town to another school while there were at least 3 in a mile or 2 radius from our house. Politics plays a big role.

Everything I see here looks pretty much like they are neighborhood schools now

Luckily they renamed Lee High School to Liberty High School and it seems to be working.

The reason I asked is because that was the opposite of my experience.

So wait..you said she could not attend based on what your neighbor said...why didnt you just call the school or look at EBR attendance zone page?

I actually live in Magnolia Woods too and my 1st daughter attended there for K and 1st before getting into the Mag program at Mayfair Lab. I actually wanted to send her to Wildwood (also close by) for the gifted program but was told she would have to go to Mag Woods as that is her attendance zone. She did get into the accelerated learning program at Mag Woods in a small class of about 12 other kids. Not sure about the current admin but back in 2017-2018 the staff was great and ran the school tight as a drum. And I thought it was shame other families from the neighborhood didnt attend the school.

Giving Basil the benefit of the doubt as that may have not been the zoning map at the time of his consideration but considering he didnt even look or inquire at the school that is two blocks aways and just took the word of his retired neighbor IDK.

Word is kids will go to school tomorrow. Rumor is they will be getting their chromebooks sent home in prep for possible virtual.

Sito already said they don’t have the money for raises in the budget this year so I have no clue how they’re planning to fix this. I see virtual days coming.

But also, where are all these community leaders? Churches & daycares have busses, has anyone reached out to these people? What about CATS busses, they ride around empty all day? There are options out there.

Putting children on CATS busses would be a Louisville-level disaster.

CATS has enough busses & drivers that they can run limited routes twice a day and divert some busses & drivers to the schools. It’s not ideal but it’s an option. Might as well get our tax dollars worth.

School TPA and from Narcisse on WBRZ "
Narcisse said school leaders are looking to get the entire parish on a virtual learning system, giving elementary school children laptops or tablets." LINK

Not sure what exactly he meant by that quote and if was in ref to this crisis or just getting everyone on board with the option.

The official "State of Schools " address has been cancelled per WAFB FB page but I m assuming some kind of press release regarding tomorrow and the rest of the week has to come out today...

From EBR

quote:

CLASSES RESUME August 22, 2023:
All EBRPSS classes and services will resume on Tuesday, August 22, 2023 with the same staggered schedule we implemented last week. We expect to maintain this altered schedule until September 5, 2023 after the Labor Day holiday.

All secondary schools (high schools and middle schools) will dismiss at 1:35 pm, and all elementary schools will dismiss at the regular 3:35 pm time. Our buses will operate routes in coordination with these adjusted schedules to and from schools campuses.

Just like every other "labor shortage" in the country, this one is very easily solved. Pay employees (in this case bus drivers) more.

But then the cost gets passed on to the consumer!

I hear you, Mr. Geriatric. I'll let you in on a secret though: that's not a rule. In the case of private enterprise, board members and CEOs can forego one of their millions of dollars to pay people at the bottom more and ensure the continuance of the company. In the case of a public service like education, it's even less of a question. There should be no profit. The EBR school superintendent makes a quarter of a million dollars. Does that sound necessary for a public service? I don't think so.

But muh tax dollars!

Heck, I sure wish there was some plant or something we could legalize and tax instead of wasting money on prosecuting over.
