Kids matter

quote:

BATON ROUGE - Public school students in East Baton Rouge Parish will be having a long weekend due to transportation issues. Read the full statement here:

Due to evolving circumstances, we will be closing schools on Monday, August 21, 2023 in order for our district leadership to meet and discuss solutions with employee groups who have expressed challenges to their roles. All EBRPSS employees are still expected to show up for work, as we will be making adjustments that impact several elements of our system and schedules. This closure applies broadly to all EBRPSS services and includes the transportation system, so there will be no buses operating Monday for charter, parochial or any other events serviced by our bus operators. Superintendent Narcisse has worked with district and individual school leaders over the weekend to facilitate Monday meetings with each group is to talk through issues and challenges to provide solutions and get kids back to schools. He will hold separate meetings with bus operators, aides, mechanics, child nutrition workers and local union leaders.

What a shitshow. I can’t see how anyone that actually cared about their kid could have them enrolled in an EBR parish run school.

Cafeteria workers this time. Teachers are still reporting... with no kids. I will be letting mine know I'll have a Google Meet open for each period.

But the hundreds of useless school "administrators" will keep getting their paychecks.

With the quality of EBR schools, they'll probably learn more while off tomorrow than they would if they'd gone to school.

Sucks for the parents, though.

And THIS is why I pay for education in EBR. I’m not OT rich by any means but I’ll be damned if I have these incompetent fools teaching my kid.

I feel for the parents this affects.

Translation: "The Superintendent and his staff are so incompetent they didn't hire enough school bus drivers to provide transportation for our system's students."

EDIT: You would think any halfway intelligent EBR school system administrator would have asked prior to school opening earlier this month, "Since we operate 550* busses in our system but we only have 375* bus drivers hired to drive our busses, how are we going to provide adequate transportation when school opens?"

I dont remember it being this crazy growing up. Mine has been to two 4 hour days the last 2 weeks. He starts full time Tuesday and then is already off the following Tuesday for an in-service day...like WTF were yall doing the last 2 weeks where you already need an in-service day.

And we are even in LA.

I don’t care if I live in the best public school district in the country. If I can afford it my kid is going private.

Remind me again why school attendance is mandatory? Maybe we need to revisit that law.

I don't know if I'd go that far. There are some really good public schools. Just not many in Louisiana. You have to know where to look. As a general rule, if the school has poor marks for "diversity" then it's probably a fine school.
