What a shitshow. I can’t see how anyone that actually cared about their kid could have them enrolled in an EBR parish run school.
Yeah, obviously but it's not that simple though. Some of us don't have thousands of dollars on hand annually to enroll in a private school or believe me they would be at Episcopal or somewhere.

ou would think any halfway intelligent EBR school system administrator would have asked prior to school opening earlier this month, "Since we operate 550* busses in our system but we only have 375* bus drivers hired to drive our busses, how are we going to provide adequate transportation when school opens?"

They knew. They didn't say anything.

I don’t have shite- OT & IRL poor. So I work a second gig because investing in my kids education is important to me. It’s a sacrifice for sure.

why school attendance is mandatory? Maybe we need to revisit that law

It's not. See homeschooling, there is a reason that 1) it's increasing significantly YoY and 2) states are starting to try and control more. Unfortunately, the vast majority of Americans budgets are based on 2 incomes and are being bled dry

My wife and I are teachers, and I would have defended public school (at high performing schools in good areas) against anyone a few years ago. Now, I’m fully supportive of those wanting to pull their kids out.

Between general incompetence and the soulless focus on standardized forms of assessments, I don’t see how public school is the best option for a child’s well-being. My wife and I can’t afford homeschooling though. The American economy has ensured we’ll both work until our late 50s.

Funny how canceled days always make it a 3 day weekend. You never see a Wednesday get canceled.

So ... There better be an excess in the budget. There's a 175 employee difference in forecasted vs actual... But ..

There are still excellent Magnet schools in the system. I guarantee you those parents care about their children’s education.

Private & Catholic schools have an agreement with the school system for busing services so this also affects parents and children in those schools as well.

There are many reasons to home school, some which are for the kids and their best interest, the other what some parents believe is their best interest.

I've seen both sides. I have neighbors who have to home school because our district is dogwater with public schools, but they are a massive family. They are socially fine, but academically they are years behind.

I know too many people pulling their kids out of public schools even in Texas.

Texas has some pretty shitty public school systems but it’s still a far cry away from how bad Louisiana public schools are. Not even close.

Not me i am a contracted Sign Language Interpreter

I have not had a raise in 13 years! They finally approved a raise over the Summer; but they did not get the papers to the correct people before August budget meeting! A True S##t show. So now i am supposed to wait for the Sept 21st meeting ; pay will be retroactive! But still very frustrating!!

It's about the kids! I still was showing up for the kids!!! Now i do not get paid tomorrow

Clarification: We’ll retire from teaching in our 50s. The state pension is still a sweet deal. We’ll probably have to be cashiers at Publix though.

I'm assuming he means they'll be dependent on 2 full time incomes until the late 50s.

I think a lot of people rationalize 2 full time incomes because they're not willing to sacrifice some nice things. Like driving a new vehicle every 5 years, or living in a McMansion.

Add a little time to your commute. Live in an older home. Drive your cars til the wheels fall off, and you can probably swing a single income household.
