I kind of agree. What made American cities great were the neighborhoods. Not so much anymore. Its like locusts, from one hot spot to another. People just don't set up roots and get involved in community much anymore.

Columbus is awesome and is growing a lot. This is a good choice.

Akron, on the other hand, is not the next great city. It is a shithole and is losing jobs and population quickly.

Yea it’s like all the people from X wanna move to Y because they have less restrictions, but wanna bring their rules to the better location. Fix your own town and make it one of america’s next great cities. Honestly, I think it goes back to people wanting easy and not willing to work for it.

It's not really about whether the towns "suck" or not. That's subjective. It's about whether the towns make sense for us and what we desire.
Louisville was considered but the property crime value was too high. That's a similar reason we are leaning away from Wichita.
Saying a town "sucks" could mean so many different things. What sucks about these towns to you? Have you been there?

Lester lives in New Orleans. Most of the cities in your list are better than New Orleans.

You should take a better look. Crime is out of control and the downtown is dead as frick.

Why do you hate equity and restorative justice? You some kind of racist bigot?

Charlotte. It is giving me huge Denver before it went big vibes. Lots of room for expansion, and a lot of people already there.
Charlotte has been booming for years now. It's population has doubled from what it was in 2007 (up over 1MM people).

I'd love to live in certain parts of Charlotte. Great entertainment draw, nice bikeways, would be easy to find employment, close to the mountains, close enough to the beach.
But the price of housing is pretty high.

They winter in Florida often. We are too old to keep up 2 homes so we settled in the middle.

Charlotte is the most sterile big city I've ever been to. No character at all.
I mean if that's your thing, it's awesome.

I’m always curious to see the hot cities list from like 15-20 years ago just to see how they would compare to the hot and popular cities in 2022.
It’s easy to find data from like 2017 or so but not from 90’s or early to mid 2000’s.

There comes a time when the politicians screw it up so bad you can no longer fix it. Unless maybe the mafia came in and started running things

Not sure why anyone is naming Witchita. It has been the aerospace capital for decades, but has seen small overall growth in the last 20 years due to geography. It's metro is similar in size to Jackson.
Raleigh is the Austin of the east. With RTP, great connectivity and 3 major universities within 20 miles, it's is going to maintain its position as a hot spot. There were already over 2 million people living in the triangle region a few years ago.
Grand Rapids is a town that growing.
Chattanooga has tons of potential.

I'm definitely not defending Akron because I don't like NE Ohio at all, but the thing about the Rust Belt in general is that a lot of the decline has already taken place. It's kind of like a market in decline that has kind of reached its bottom. There is some upside for some of these towns today. I don't know if Akron is one of these, but it's possible.
For example, Fort Wayne was on the list of potential cities, and it very much has some upside. Been growing steadily through the years.
