I can't comment on the area you live in, but from what I've read it doesn't sound like a metropolis. So I have a hard time thinking anything you think you know about a REAL city is a joke, but that's just me.
No worries QT I wasn't "bashing" NOLA. I simply stated an opinion when the NOLA crowd got their panties in their usual wad when someone says one negative about the city. My town is rural and nothing even remotely like NOLA or BR for that matter and thats precisely why I like it.

And yes the place is still a shithole with nothing to do. Have all the white flight you want but it will still just be a town with very little to do.

people who tell tourists the tourists places are shite and then spread the local places on media such as this are the reason why you have to wait 40 minutes for a table at the crappiest places on Frenchmen now.

I know uncle Ted teaches that redneck class twice a year about New Orleans. He came down a few times and went to the dome and walked up and down Bourbon Street, so he is an expert.
Just try a little to learn a few things extra above and beyond his shite about seeing black folk and drinking sweet drinks and eating fried food.
Really, there is a shitload of info out there for people with half a brain to learn about N.O. You might even figure out a way to explore the city in a new and unique way.

It's a little overboard to say no one would come. However I'm surprised so many people disagree that the FQ is our bread and butter when it' comes to tourism. As much as locals hate it, it's our main draw.

I don't care for New Orleans. I find it's fun to visit once in a while, but I have 0 desire to live there. Particularly around the FQ where it's old, dirty, and stinks (particularly Bourbon). Other parts of town aren't so bad but I just dislike the parking and the most housing more than anything.. so obviously, not a place I'd enjoy living, I don't think. If I got to pick where I reside, I'd live in Austin. I loved that city. And I plan to move there whenever my career is far enough advanced.

I live in Gonzo, can confirm. Young people have to go to BR or Nola to really have any fun if they don't consider themselves 'country' or redneck.
