That's pretty terrible advice for enjoying the city, unless you wanna just be one of those people who just drive in to hit up all the shitty bars on bourbon

Everyone has said there are so many better things to do in NOLA but nobody had mentioned anything specific. Does anyone have suggestions?

Go see music at one of the billion good venues? Go to a museum like the national World War II museum.. eat somewhere good? I'm not giving OP shite. He had a good time, that's all that matters.

To be honest, I'd much rather live here than visit. There are so many things to do on a daily basis. Music in the square on Wednesdays, drink specials almost every night, great restaurants everywhere, free music most nights. I could see how it could suck to live here if you have kids and are lower middle class (because of school), but if you make good money or don't have kids it's an awesome place to live.

Vegas, Houston, Dallas, L.A., MIAMI come to mind. Partying in the city is not really visiting the city, but that's just me.

I agree. Even being broke and in school it's still a fun place to live. There's a lot to be done for pretty cheap. I've been to so many great music shows since I moved here on the cheap.

It was not intended as advice. It was an opinion that I have had for 47 years. I stand by it 100%. The guy who said Houston was better is regretfully right. But.... NOLA has its French Quarter and that is what keeps it going. Eliminate the Quarter and NO ONE would come there. The locals love to hate on the FQ but reality is if it was sunk into oblivion tomorrow that would be the death sentence of the city. Thats FACT.

The ATL is better: they have a Coke bottle with the label in Arabic.

Jesus this is dumb.

Have you spent any time elsewhere? Uptown is much better than the FQ IMO. There's fun to be had downtown but the fact is if you're not trying to just get absolutely trashed bourbon street really sucks, Pat O's excluded.

And your opinion is far from fact.

OK Jones then name me the draw that would bring tourists into the city? The ZOO? The WW2 Museum? There are those all over the country that are better. The food? NY, Chicago, San Fran etc.. all have better. What would bring people there? The Saints? Locals are fans not tourists.

I'm just saying that everytime a tourist compliments their time there, which was of course in the quarter, they get blasted by locals like "and he didn't even see the REAL NOLA"!! blah blah. Well I can tell you he probably didnt want to go eat at a little shithole like Guys to eat an overpriced overcooked shrimp poboy in a filthy little hole in the wall. They come there to party on Bourbon Street. That why the tourism bureau has the Quarter on EVERY commercial made. Taking that away would be like moving Gulf Shores and Destin north by 50 miles. How would those places fare if that were the case? People go to places because of the main attraction and in NOLA's case it's the Quarter.
