No. That would be tampering.

Asik and Ajinca both officially signed last night.

Cuban only wants centers that can hold on to the ball

People want someone new so bad that we trade someone who contributes immediately for someone who might never contribute but could possibly be ok in couple years

I don't think it's crazy to be willing to part ways with a bench player for a high potential guy at a position of desperate need.

I like Cole a lot but KJ's ceiling is such that he could be a legitimate core piece if he reaches it. It's a gamble but eventually you have to hit on a guy like this to have enough pieces to win a championship.

ETA: Personally, I would do it but I see the reasoning on the other side.

Let's imagine KJ McDaniels was in this year's draft. Where does he go? I would say in the 20's. But he will be on a more expensive contract and is just as raw.

Again, for the rest of our MLE? Sure. Give up Cole? That is crazy IMO. He is an okay prospect but let's not get crazy.

MM what are you hearing? Do you think we sign KJ to an offer sheet? If not, are we done until we make some moves midseason?

I told people what I was hearing before this whole process began. That we would be running it back. Dell will put minimum deals out there to a few guys and fill out the roster.

The plan is to go after KD in 2016. Patience, people. A guy like KJ McDaniels is so meaningless in the big picture.

Not at all. Cole is the definition of replacement player.

He played well for the Pels. He works hard on defense, but he's a small guard and he is not Beverly. I would imagine people rate him highly because he shot significantly better in New Orleans in 28 games than he did in 274 games in Miami. Maybe his shooting will normalize and stay at this rate. I doubt it though. I'm not a fan of him "running" an offense. That he is comfortable off ball is a big plus, though. And he's been there before, so that does count for something.

I get the worry about Holiday and Gordon and their health. But, unless my medical advisors don't think Holiday can overcome his injury, I don't plan around that. To me, Cole doesn't rate highly enough to make that much of a difference if there is injury. You're screwed playing whoever that guy is regardless. I'd rather take a gamble on an impact wing (that many thought would get 8 figures this summer before being shipped to Houston- many also think that deal and his subsequent burial on the depth chart was Hinkie payback for not signing the 4 year deal he gives all 2nd picks).

I go for position of need over the 5th guard on the roster.

Plus, we have no idea what price point either guy is looking for.

Well in our defense, it's tough for us to envision being able to sign KD...

Yes, we will have the money, Yes we have a once in a lifetime player that will attract, but it's hard for us to truly believe we have a legit shot at him.

+1, you can always find a backup PG on the level of Cole they are all over the league. We're talking about a PG with a career PER of 9.0, even a guy like say a Brian Roberts is at 13.3 and nobody here wanted the team to keep him. PER doesn't measure defense well you say..That's fine Cole is better defensively but Roberts is better offensively.

i'm gonna chalk up calling those of us who are realistic about cole "retards" to the trauma of watching austin rivers/john salmons/luke babbit/gal mekel/nate wolters/etc trying to play basketball last year

it's ok though, PTSD is common after witnessing that which cannot be unseen

Someone over on PR made a point about S&T scenarios, Houston would have to use part of their MLE to make it happen. If Josh Smith only gets $3 million like Cunningham did, then we could make it work, if he gets any more then a S&T is not possible, but it also wouldn't be necessary necessary because Houston wouldn't be able to match. So what we do or don't do with KJ probably won't be resolved until Josh Smith gets resolved.

I don't like PER for PGs tbh

Roberts is an elite FT shooter and is a bit better jump shooter. That's really it.

Cole brings more to the table overall for me.

Kings remain interested in Rockets free agent F Josh Smith, a source said. Smith & new Kings PG Rajon Rondo were Oak Hill Academy teammates.

Smith going to the Kings is bad for getting KJ. The Kings sniffing around Smith and making the Rockets go ahead and resign him is good for getting KJ.

Sounds like a leak by the smith camp to get the rockets to blink.
