re: Asik signs 5 year deal for $60 million, 5 year not guaranteed - corndeaux
I'm sure the number will be fine. My question is why lock up Ajinca and Asik? Ajinca's deal isn't bad, but he's a 4th big getting a 4 year deal. The starting 5 is, reportedly, getting a 5 year deal. Does this mean Anderson is getting shopped?...

re: Ajinca signs 4/$20m with Pels - corndeaux
Hmmm. While I admire his improvement, I'm not a big fan of Ajinca's game. I don't really want him as 4th big for $5M/year. We'll see what happens....

re: AFA dodged, WTF - corndeaux
Definitely agree that Aminu is not demonstrably better than his NO days. Just goes to show how much context and system matter. It is strange they targeted him first. It makes some sense if they think Leonard/Vonleh can be legit stretch bigs. Either way, they will be a lottery team for a couple o...

re: AFA dodged, WTF - corndeaux
That's a good deal for green dunleavy got 3/14 There is no justification for AFA's deal
Value is relative, even for players. Green likely had bigger offers. Dunleavy likely had bigger offers. They like their spots and will settle for less to stay where they are happy. ...

re: AFA dodged, WTF - corndeaux
I think there's a particular bias w/ Aminu from Pels fans (which is fine and understandable). I fully disagree with the $2.5M, which is ok; different strokes for different folks. MLE is a fair price for him IMO, regardless of his career PER or FG%. He's never going to be a plus offensive player, ...

re: AFA dodged, WTF - corndeaux
these contracts are all going to look terrible in year 1 and generally better in the coming years. This was the year to overpay
Yup. It will, likely, be a very good deal after year 1. Like ATL is alluding to, this seems to be a blow to the Pels chances of getting a desired wing...

re: AFA dodged, WTF - corndeaux
You typically have to be a starting caliber player to get more than the MLE. Aminu's improvement last year came playing a bench role.
That is the question. To me, I think it's a little bit of both Meeks overpay and devaluing of the MLE. Portland is in a bad spot....

re: AFA dodged, WTF - corndeaux
Value is relative. Aminu had a good year playing an en vogue role in a similar offense to PDX. He has very real value as a small ball 4 next to a big with some range. Now, if they think he is a Batum replacement, they are going to be disappointed. Like cgrand said, PDX has cap space. They can't u...

re: AD signed already: 5th year player option - corndeaux
Can a numbers guy say how much he potentially left on the table by not waiting until next year with the big expected cap increase?
He didnt leave any money anywhere. His extension kicks in the same year as the cap spike. The extra money would have been if he waited for ...

re: AFA dodged, WTF - corndeaux
Which is a lot next year but in the following years it's basically like what 4.5 million is now. So get used to seeing stupid contracts like this.
Yup. If anything, it makes sense to overpay now. Aminu at 7.5 with a cap around $110M in 2 years is a very good deal. ETA: of course...

re: How Low Could Asik Go? - corndeaux
let's not compare anything that the Warriors did defensively against the iso offense of Lebron for every game b/c he had absolutely no help from his team mates.
Eh. The Warriors snuffed out the Cavs when they did try to diversify. Some of that is a lack of personnel in Cleveland. ...

re: How Low Could Asik Go? - corndeaux
AD is our 5 when it comes to the playoffs and whoever our C is will play limited minutes come playoff time.
Which is fine. San Antonio does that. The Warriors do that. The Thunder were at their best with Ibaka at the 5 (RIP Scott Brooks's rotations) The problem for the Pels is...

re: How Low Could Asik Go? - corndeaux
The escalated cap and fewer starting centers on the market next season should be more favorable to him.
I do wonder if his injury history and being 30 by next summer will change his thinking. Listening to the Lowe/Stein pod right now. They think a lot of guys will not be doing the ...

re: How Low Could Asik Go? - corndeaux
corndeaux is really the only one that's felt $12-$13 was his market value
I believe that was more towards the beginning of the season; could be as wrong though about the timing as I was about his price. I've come down throughout the length of the season. In this thread (I think) I ...

re: SBNation's prediction for the top 50 Free Agents. - corndeaux
Value for all but a handful of players is relative. Asik's skill set, the cap situation, and team timeline make $10M fair. Perhaps a little pricey, but he fits a need for the Pels that would be hard to replace if he walks....

re: SBNation's prediction for the top 50 Free Agents. - corndeaux
. If you put him in lineups with either Asik or Reke
Aminu interest means they likely see Anderson as a core piece. He is a great complement to Anderson. Tie most of his minutes to Ryno and that's a solid 3/4 combo. Holiday, Gordon/QPon, Aminu, Anderson, and Davis is an intriguing,...

re: The argument for(and against) Carmelo - corndeaux
Getting Team USA Melo is incredibly appealing and worth it. Catch and shoot/attack Melo is simply devastating. But I don't know if that Melo exists without an elite perimeter (Bron, Paul, Kobe, Durant, etc) player who both keeps him from dominating the ball and is a guy he respects/trusts. He's g...

re: How Low Could Asik Go? - corndeaux
would you pay Asik $10+ rather than $5 or less for Biyombo?
On this year's Pelicans? Yes. I like the potential of Biyombo (still 22!), but, unless they really believe he can replicate everything Asik does right now (I don't), it's a step back for the team. They can't afford any...
2 hours long
Yeah. They love to dork out. I listened to a few of them throughout the playoffs. I'll check that one out for marathon listening. They also started doing team off season reviews/previews. No Pels yet, I believe. But I'm curious to hear what they say. ...
