re: Tobias Harris - corndeaux
I'd rather get rid of Pondexter,
You want to get rid of the only guy on the roster over 6'4" who offers 3pt shooting, some defense, and is on a cheap contract for the next few years to keep Cunningham? Ye, gods....

re: Tobias Harris - corndeaux
The question is can he be the starting 3.
Not if you want to solve perimeter defense issues. Maybe a coach with a real scheme changes that, but Harris isn't very good on that end of the court. He's an offense first player. I'd rather take my chances w/ expiring Gordon/Anderson t...

re: Stephen A. Smith: I hope the Knicks & Lakers get the first 2picks in the draft - corndeaux
The NFL has parody
Truer words have rarely ever been spoken. The NBA is fine. They don't need parity. The sport and the league isn't built for it. There was no parity in the 80s and everyone loves 80s NBA. They've changed the CBA rules (luxury tax) enough to stop deep pockets...

re: Jeff Van Gundy pleading the 5th on Pelicans coaching search - corndeaux
As others have put it, he's the original Thibs only he doesn't have an infamous grating personality. Riley begat JVG who begat Thibs. Also, several months back on Zach Lowe's podcast the question came up whether he'd prefer a defensively skewed player or an offensively skewed player and he sa...

re: Pelicans receive permission to speak with Alvin Gentry - corndeaux
Not at all. Said many times he isn't a great hire. I like him the best of all the names we've heard, but that says more about the names than Gentry. That said, I'd be happy with any of the guys we've heard too. My end game is to get better discussion on this board. The whole idea that I'm on team...
Sorry, I didn't take notes to point out the bad moves.
Of course. Much easier to just say things without anything to back it up.
Pop has more rings than Doc has appearances
Talking about the past? As you pointed out, this is a results business. Doc beat him he...
not let the HC off the hook (see: Monty Williams).
But you're not pointing a bad coaching move. You're just saying "They lost, ergo the coach failed." Was Pop a bad coach? Or Thibs? Or Carlisle? Is McHale a good coach because he won? Scott Brooks and Mark Jackson have great ...

re: Pelicans receive permission to speak with Alvin Gentry - corndeaux
And you don't think having no bench impacted the Clippers ability to close out Houston? The fact that Corey Brewer and Josh Smith, mid season bench pickups, ignited the comeback doesn't matter? That Houston overcame multiple injuries with superior depth?...

re: Pelicans receive permission to speak with Alvin Gentry - corndeaux
He was given a similar opportunity in LA and seems to be floundering a bit
Need to be careful separating Doc the coach from Doc the GM. The Clippers top 6 are as good as anyone. Unfortunately, they anchored the bench by using the 2009 NBA register and trading for Austin Rivers. ...

re: Pelicans receive permission to speak with Alvin Gentry - corndeaux
Lots and lots of revisionist history here.
Doc spent 4 years in Orlando before going to boston. Coach of the year his second season, never had a losing record.
Coach of the year means jack shite. Byron Scott won it too. Plus playing .500 ball is now an accomplishment? And Doc ...

re: Pelicans receive permission to speak with Alvin Gentry - corndeaux
Yeah. It's tough to tell with JVG. He has moments where he says things that are so on the money and impressive and others where it's like he is stealing lines from Reggie Miller. Stan is sharp, they obviously talk shop. Where does his on air act end and the coach begin?...

re: Pelicans receive permission to speak with Alvin Gentry - corndeaux
It's not unheard of for coaches to improve. Terry Stotts and Doc Rivers had losing records before finding success. Rick Carlisle was fired from 2 jobs before finding a place in Dallas. Gentry has questions, but he's the name I like the most out of all the rumored targets. Guys like Atkinson are ...

re: Pelicans receive permission to speak with Alvin Gentry - corndeaux
Its amazing that this guy is a hot HC name again
2 Things: He is, by all accounts, a likable NBA lifer. I think most people liked what he did in Phoenix. The D'Antoni core was falling apart and the owner is a clown (infamous comments during the lockout). Kerr left that mess u...
