re: Anyone else VERY disappointed in "The Ringer"? - corndeaux
"Even more upsetting to me than the people vehemently disagreeing with me were people who just wanted to talk about movies or funny stuff." How ridiculous is that you are disappointed that everyone in the world didn't get dragged into BLM v Blue Line bull shite on Facebook
I agre...

re: Anyone else VERY disappointed in "The Ringer"? - corndeaux
I'm also not sure that they have found their line-up/voice for that pod yet
I think that's true across the board for the site. It's important to remember that Grantland was pretty unremarkable when it launched. It took that site to a while to get it's sea legs, to find more/the...
Jonathan Tjarks ruins the NBA ones.
It's a shame. He's very sharp and can write great, in-depth pieces. Just has a voice for print. Telling that NBA junkie Simmons hasn't done a pod with him yet ...

re: Pels to host the All-Star Game? - corndeaux
Private organizations trying to dictate public policy is what I am against.
If you read up on what actually happened, it's more like public institution (NC legislature) dictated public policy to the city of Charlotte, which had previously passed an anti-discrimination law All t...

re: defense...addition by subtraction? - corndeaux
And this is where eye test fails to some degree. Cole looked like a "good" defender because he tried really hard and would pressure the ball. Which worked in Miami b/c they played an aggressive style of defense w/ athletes behind him to cover up mistakes. Not so much in NO in a different scheme ...

re: defense...addition by subtraction? - corndeaux
i guess this info isnt publicly available?
I haven't seen it, but I could be missing it completely. The juicy stuff would be things that Lowe detailed in his Raptors piece a few years back (ghost player movement v actual player movement). They do have a Defensive Hub on NBA.com ...

re: defense...addition by subtraction? - corndeaux
(Publicly available) Defensive stats are just tricky. Consider: According to ESPN's Real +/-, Monta Ellis had a .44 DBPM. E'Twaun Moore was at. -.44. No one in their right mind would say Ellis is a better defender than Moore. Even FG% vs can be problematic. I would imagine teams have internal...

re: Good "The Ringer" Article on Influence of Danny Ferry on Pels - corndeaux
the articles are so short
Simmons said this was a conscious decision. They wanted the site to be more mobile friendly in terms of layout (hence Medium) and content. They replenished the NBA staff w/ a sharp like Tjarks, but the rest of the site seems inconsequential, right now, ...

re: Official Free Agency Thread - corndeaux
I think a franchise tag would be a bad idea. But, in general, and I'm in a small minority around here, I think copying the NFL is a bad idea. In their most recent SI podcast, Andrew Sharp had a great quote about losing interest in the NFL over the years because of parity that mirrors my thoughts exa...
I think you may see an increase to the max percentages in the new CBA in an attempt to prevent superteams, so it might behoove him not to be locked in too long.
Possibly. Or a franchise tag, which yuck. But the owners also might really pursue a hard cap or cutting the players' reve...

re: Official Free Agency Thread - corndeaux
Like ATL pointed out, it's a $7-$8M contract under the old cap. That's not "starter" money unless you are going with the "he starts, so he's making starter money" definition of the term. Which it seems like you are. Carry on. Nothing left to say here...

re: Official Free Agency Thread - corndeaux
That part plus $$. He can sign a 4 year max right now and get roughly the same $$ as if he waited til next summer. With a new CBA on the horizon, things could change. Might make sense to lock in while you can Also an outside shot at one final payday since he would be a FA a year earlier if h...
I mean, he's better than asik by a lot, but I don't think he deserves that much money without proving himself as a starter. But that is the trend this offseason. Paying guys starter money to start on new teams even though they've never started before, but have shown promise.
...

re: Winning Culture - corndeaux
His plan could of worked
Your thesis is interesting, but incomplete, IMO. I do think having players from bad teams hurt a bit, but the poor construction of the roster was a bigger detriment in my mind. Way too much skill/role overlap among the guards led to selfishness and fru...

re: The roster is set how many wins do you predict next season? - corndeaux
Assuming reasonable health..... Contender: GS 50 + Wins: SAS LAC MEM Then a whole lot of  wouldn't be shocked to see any of these teams in or out of the playoffs...(OKC off the board b/c Westbrook uncertainty, but they would be at the top of this list if Russ stays) PDX ...

re: My rotation/prediction - corndeaux
I don't see why more people don't see it
Yeah. If Evans is really out, I don't see how they can be serious about Galloway/Moore as initiators of offense. They are more wings than creators (I wonder what, if anything, these moves say about Pondexter's health/expectations). Maybe...

re: Zach Lowe: Pels one of the Winners of Free Agency/Offseason - corndeaux
Flexibility. Finally. Amen Barring more injury apocalypse, Moore should be a moveable contract, at a minimum. Hill may be a little dicier in that respect if he flops, but I think teams would take a flier on a youngish combo forward who is a willing defender and doesn't need the ball given the way...
