I guess you're right. I don't understand NBA basketball because it's frustrating for me to see a 7 ft center miss at least one dunk a game because of his butterfingers.

To everyone that hates on Asik, do you get it now after the last 5 minutes of that 4th quarter? If you don't, the problem isn't Asik, it's you.

Yep. He protected the rim from one of the best scorers in basketball. It was definitely a small sample size but it was a great illustration of how stats do not always reflect effectiveness.
I've watched him play more than probably anybody on this board. It wasn't some fluke because of a small sample size.

He is a great defender.

Has has bogut, SA has diaw and even splitter has a post game. DH has developed a significant bank shot from about 10 feet. Noah can score from 8-10 feet. Cousins can shoot from decent range. Deandre Jordan can't shoot but if you throw it to him he's gonna catch it and dunk it. Gasol can shoot from anywhere. I'd say the list of teams that have a non-offensive contributor at Center are actually greatly outnumbered...

You just compared a player that makes 8.3 mil to a bunch of guys who all make 10+ mil, outside of SA, who Asik is much better than. Asik is what he is, and he's a great fit for this team.

Yep.

Not sure why people think I'm an Asik hater. Been on board with the move from day one- it's the best thing Demps has done since getting Anderson. But he is not a good offensive player. Which is fine.

Defense numbers:

107 overall (26th)

On court: 107.3

Off Court: 107.6

For reference:

Holiday is 107.8 ON, then 106.6 OFF.

Davis is 105 ON, 111 OFF.

The team is actually better with Asik off the court(+3.8) than with him on(-4.9). Do I think Asik is a problem? No. I think he's been hurt more than we know. Also think shitty coaching and poor depth are tough to overcome.

I'll be honest... the few Pelicans games I've watched Asik didn't look like himself. Looked sluggish like he wasn't playing that hard. One of the things that I really like about his game is that he would give 100%.

I was wondering if he was playing hurt. Maybe he is...

Bogus is making 12mil a year and somewhat injury prone. He's one of the better centers but they don't run their offense through him.

Diaw is a stretch and splitter is a post. They both aren't complete centers either. Neither are as good defensively as asik.

DH is a top 3 center. Max contract

Noah is another top 3 center. Max contract type. He is the anchor to that Chicago team.

Cousins is a top 5 center and is not good defensively as asik and he will be a max player.

Jordan can only catch lobs, defensively up there with asik but he makes more than asik.

Gasol is a top 3 center. Max contract

Yeah how about that. The max or higher paid are better.

I wasn't comparing Asik to them directly. I was pointing out that "basically every other good team" didn't play with a Center with no offense. It was a response to the claim that "almost all other teams" play with a center under the rim. And for the record, I do not hate Asik. I liked the signing, I like what he's supposed to bring to the court. I just don't see him answering the bell like I expected him to.

What bell? Defensively? He is. Offensively? He's doing what he's always been capable of and nothing more.

There was another team in the last decade that had one really great defensive center that was absolutely shitastic offensively and they played rather well.

Are you serious? I'm defending Asik from the crazy guy who thinks every team needs an offensive center.

Call it whatever you want. Here are the facts:

Overall the offense rates at 107 points per 100 possessions, which is 6th in the NBA.

111 points per 100 (2nd in the league) when Asik is OFF the court

102 points per 100 (18th in the league) when Asik is ON the court.

Fair enough. I guess that is a significant difference. But most teams will probably get a lot better offensively with their center off the court. Dallas is the most efficient offense playing incredibly guard-heavy lineups. That's a big reason why. With Asik on the court, we are still scoring enough that our overall offense is elite. I guess my point is people harping on our offense not being smooth is kind of silly. Complain about individuals that could do things to make it even more efficient, but just ridiculous to complain about our most defensive heavy rotation when its still 18th in the league against teams average rotation. We have a top 5 offense and bottom 5 defense. Yet there is more complaining about Asik than Anderson and, for some people. Reke. Seems like its pretty obvious who's shortcomings are hurting the team more.

But, yes, you are right that the offense stutters when Asik goes in. But not more than would be expected when you "go big". 102 is a respectable efficiency rate for having a very defensive center in. I don't think we need to be looking at the scheme or anything at the offensive end of the floor. Except for situations where Tyreke dribbles out the shot clock.

I don't understand why we allow so many offensive rebounds

Try to think of think of the last time you can remember Ryno grabbing a defensive rebound that would be in danger of falling into the hands of the offense if an average high school center were replacing him.

clown post, bro. Sorry you have an agenda against Asik but he's probably a top-10 center in the league and fits his role perfectly.
