This could be dell forcing the bulls hand if they feel that hoiberg isn't solid.

Gentry is on the short list in CHI and this could make them take a run at him.

A NOLA reporter is reporting this, just saying.

Gentry is a good number 2 guy. It's not a bad thing to be a good assistant but that's what he is and he's not a good head coach. Just reminds me of Norv Turner no matter how bad he was he kept getting opportunities to be a head coach. What's the definition of insanity?

Gentry' coaching record speaks for itself. Wining percentage at 47% with three teams. Everyone keeps bringing up his time in Phoenix but he was fired there too.

I'd look at a Gentry hire kind of the same way as if we hired Byron Scott. A retread.

Or maybe more similar to when the Cavs hired Paul Silas.

Neither inspiring confidence in the fan base. Has there been a truly successful retread hire in the NBA? Larry Brown?

Does it? Ask any Suns fan and 95% will say Gentry is a good coach that got fricked by his GM

shite if this were about 10 years earlier, I'd be down with hiring Brown. Great teacher and has succeeded in some pretty tough situations.

why do you compare the black coaches to the black coaches and talk about a successful retread being a white coach?

you racist, brah?

An Alvin Gentry hire would merely be "ok," but it certainly wouldn't be anywhere close to a home run.

i don't know if a home run is available to us

maybe that ATL assistant HC, but that's swinging for the fences with a high likelihood of striking out, too

people keep posting grandiose criticisms like "can you picture gentry leading us to a championship?" and you can ask the same of every option

the top-tier candidates don't have any interest in coaching our team. hell they didn't have any interest in orlando, either, who had to settle on scott skiles. it is what it is.

i can't picture any coach available, including the "top tier," leading the pels to a ship, TBH, because NBA championships historically have been won by very few teams. This year will be the first to really buck that trend in a while. i just want a coach who can take the next step and move the team toward a WCF and go from there.

well the board's other favorite is JVG, who is also a retread. that's what i was saying earlier about not having any "homerun" hires willing to come here

Gentry gives me a semi at least. He can corch offense and lets the players play. Could at least have a rockets/adelman situation where the previous regimes defensive principles linger for a couple years in the players heads whilst they grow on the other end of the floor.

He also reminds me of my aau coach from summer 02.

"Hey guys, just rebound the ball mmmkay?"

We finna go on a 2010 suns run next year

I guess the question has to be asked, what do the Pelicans want to be? Dell Demps is a lousy GM that wants hire Gentry because he won't really have much input on player selection. The guy is just bad.

It's pretty clear with the roster that they want to be an uptempo/share the ball/running type of team. Monty wasn't the coach for that.

Oh the dell is power hungry and wants no one on his turf argument. If that is true why interview JVG?

I don't think some realize that this team is in pretty good shape.

Phil Jackson
Rick Carlisle
Doc Rivers

ETA

And if playoffs define success:

George Karl
Lionel Hollins
Vinny Del Negro
