How about the other 11 years as a HC

And that Suns team that year was pretty stacked too

I've been a fan of Gentry as a hire on here since midseason. I know I'm in a shrinking minority, but guys like Joel Meyers and Zach Lowe have continuously said he'd be a great fit here and I really think he would be.

Again, his record as a coach has to be viewed within context and what he had to work with. I think he runs the scheme that would fit our roster really well. Personality-wise, he's got just the right temperament for a coach in this city and Anthony Davis will love him.

Again, there is no perfect hire, but if we end up with Gentry, JVG, Messina, Atkinson, or Thibs, I'll feel OK about it and feel like we've upgraded over Monty.

Been coaching since 1980 and his entire rep rests on one Steve Nash season as a HC, and as assistant for Steph and CP3 for a season.

Couldn't be more different than the type of guy Loomis went with when he was looking for his head coach. If Loomis had hired a "Gentry" when he was looking for a coach, that guy would be turning 70 right now, and likely long gone.

Can anyone picture Alvin Gentry leading us to a championship? That's what this hire needs to do. We have the 2nd best player on the planet, we need a coach that can take him and the team to the Finals. I can't picture gentry leading us there. Sorry.

Considering Gentry was basically a Ron Artest tip in from making the finals with the Suns, yea, I can imagine him leading a team to the finals...

Your record says what kind of coach you are. I'm sorry but this guy sucks. Anthony Davis will be gone because this hire says the organization is not serious about winning. Do they really think the fans will be excited about Alvin Gentry? Really? The guy has a losing record. I was seriously considering buying season tickets but no thanks.

Look...Gentry is a good coach. A good assistant coach. I have no doubt our offense would be good.

But this hire to me would just show a complete inability to think outside the box. A 60 year old retread with a shitty HC record. I mean....you just can't do it. Screams of Dell just trying to keep his job.

You think Cleveland fans were excited when they hired David B? No, but right now they love the hiring. If we do hire Gentry we just have to make sure he hires a good defensive assistant HC.

An Alvin Gentry hire would merely be "ok," but it certainly wouldn't be anywhere close to a home run. With a player like Anthony Davis on this team, the front office should no longer be settling for "ok." I have a very hard time believing that he is the absolute best coach that they could possibly bring down here.

If this is the guy that Dell hires for Davis, he should be fired.

Blatt was an outside of the box, inspired, hire.

Gentry is just the next guy in line. He was gonna get a job somewhere...

Somehow "the best job opening since...," turned into hiring a guy who would take any job he could get.

Word is Clippers associate HC Alvin Gentry will have a second interview with the Utah Jazz on Tuesday. He's also interviewed with Cle&LAL
lol

This guy will literally take any head coaching job he can get. Now he might end up with Anthony Davis

I've had a sneaking suspicion Gentry would be the man. He's the easy choice.

No matter who the coach is, if the Pels don't end the season strong and make a statement in the playoffs, even if it is just the first round, then AD is gone. Book it Dano!

And no matter what Gentry does, he'll never have the cache to push for more power. Ever. That's unfortunately going to be a factor for Dell.

Which probably says he doesn't think he's a Pels lock. This is still Loomis' decision and all the rumors have said that that part of the FO likes JVG. It'd have to be a hell of a sales pitch with a hell of an assistant staff, or perhaps JVG would have to totally whiff on the staff for Gentry to get Loomis' approval too. Loomis fired Monty because he knew he wasn't good enough. I'm sure he's as aware of Gentry's record and lack of success as Fun Bunch is.

Anyone who's had to recommend multiple options to a supervisor knows that if your supervisor is choosing between results and making your life easier, results usually win out, no matter how hard you sell easy.

You mean the guy that had his final play call in a conference semifinals game vetoed and then had it shoved in his face?

I don't know much about Blatt and I'm not saying he has no part in where the Cavs currently are, but things are much different if LeBron doesn't go home. Not many fans are going to be unhappy while in the NBA Finals.

I'll just throw this out there, you can take it or laugh at it

Maybe JVG isn't interviewing for Head Coach, but for a front office position. Loomis could be the one interviewing him to replace Dell, while Gentry becomes the coach

This all day long. I will say for a fact that someone above Demps really, really likes the idea of hiring JVG. That doesn't mean that it will work out that way. We can't say for sure how the JVG interview(s) will go or what he may demand.
