Nate moving too quickly to make a definitive northern turn. This one's going right up the mouth of the river and right through New Orleans. Direct hit. :dude:...

re: Hurricane Nate - Moving Inland - Hurricane Season Over? - purplepylon
No idea why the NHC is treating the Euro like an outlier. If its 24 hrs out and the Euro has it hitting Grand Isle then I'd center my cone right there. Euro has been the best for years...

NHC shifts track to east. Less than an hour later, GFS run shifts it's path back to west over Louisiana. It's going to keep doing this all day tomorrow, which is why I don't understand why they took a majority of Louisiana out of the cone...

With how impressive the storm looks now, I'd be surprised if it isn't a hurricane by tonight. Might be time to start upping those wind speed projections at landfall. Strong Cat 1/Weak Cat 2 not out of the question....

re: Hurricane Irma - Spinning Down - purplepylon
This is the worst-case scenario for Miami. A storm coming in from the south, the NE quadrant of the storm pushing water into the shallow Biscayne Bay and into the city. Add on 175 mph winds and you got a city killer. This could be worse than what they predicted for New Orleans when Katrina was a day...
