It wasn't as revered. It was the cast, probably.
I actually love Evolution. Neat idea with the near instantaneous adaptations. Nice effects.

Adding this to my rewatch list.

Man, Ghostbusters is right at the perfect sweet spot of nerd outrage: girls doing comedy AND rebooting a beloved movie from our childhood? Geez, why not specifically adapt the cartoon, just for maximum outrage?

To be honest, I don't care that they are remaking Ghostbusters. It's not like it ruins the old movie. It will still exist and to be honest, it is a bit dated. My kid doesn't think its nearly as funny as I do. which is fine. She's her own person and she gets her own childhood. I'm sure my dad was disappointed I liked the wrong King Kong. Movies get remade. It's honestly not the biggest of deals (there's a few exceptions: remaking Casablanca would legitimately outrage me).

As for the trailer, I like the look of the ghosts. This is appropriately creepy yet not terrifying for kids in, what I will remind you, is a kid's movie:

And Kate McKinnon just exudes star quality. She's not Bill Murray, but who is? But just about every moment of the trailer she's in is fantastic. Seriously, is it the wig or the hat?

This movie will be her coming out party. No pun intended. To use the old phrase, the camera loves her.

It's beginning to irk me that people are using the fact it's an all woman cast to throw up as a shield from criticism.

We don't like this movie because it shits on the originals despite raping all of its themes and is a blatant cash grab.

The original movie is iconic. It's my favorite of all time. People of my generation love this movie as much as many love Star Wars. The disdain we have now is the same disdain shared by Star Wars fans when the prequels came out.

I admit I was pissed about this movie initially. Then I kind of realized, who gives a frick. This movie will come and go without me ever seeing it, and that's fine. I have no interest in seeing it as well as my entire household. I still have the old movies and I will cherish them as I always have. This movie will not ruin that for me.

There's a difference between being pissed about something being made and not caring to see it. Nothing about what I've seen from this movie gives me any interest in it. I'm not pissed about what they're doing. Let them do whatever the frick they want. I'm just not going to see it.

That being said, with this movie (as with many others) you have people pissed about it being made. You also have people getting pissed about the all girl thing and they throw out sexist comments. Honestly, I think those things are incredibly immature. But you also have people on the other side who get pissed about the movie getting any kind of criticism. Even just criticizing the tone or the specific actresses that they don't like. They immediately get offended and pull a sexist card. That also is pretty immature.

Why people get so worked up about this shite, I have no idea. It's a movie. The world will go on. If you want to see it, fine. If you don't, don't. Discuss your likes and dislikes. That's what a message board is for, but there's no need for all of this shite.

Am I the only person who doesn't find either current SNL cast members to be funny?

Jones is flat out awful. Seriously should have got Crazy Eyes from Orange is the New Black to fill your "need diversity role."

McKinnon I just dont get the love. I have seen her SNL work and while she is their best current cast member...its not like any one left on that show has potential. She is simply the only one that is barely funny. Hader and Samberg were the last decent people on SNL.

McCarthy is a 1 trick pony but if you dont include her you are fat shaming...My main gripe here is casting her to be a scientist its just as bad IMO as Sandler casting himself as a plastic surgeon.

Wiig was the only slam dunk casting choice made IMO and McKinnon is ok.

Her character looks different than any of the other actors have to offer. I agree, I think she could be the shining star in this shite show. Wiig's character will get lost in annoying fat and loud black... McKinnon looks like she got something new to offer us.

I like the part when the black lady said "oh hell no", that was funny cause she saw the ghost and she was all like "oh hell no".

this same formula was tried in Evolution.

I love Evolution. Love it. It's well done. From the acting to the character development to the stupid character intersections, etc...

Maybe in the eyes of a child it would appear to be a serious movie. Ghostbusters was a straight up comedy.

Not really. Guess you're in the minority :/. Read reactions for most people who are fans of the old ghostbusters and say the same thing. This movie lacks any serious aspects. The improv helped give it a comedic spin. Read above this post how Dan Akroyd had tons of paranormal details written into the script...it had a totally different take. This was making ghosbusters to make ghostbusters, but its really bridesmaids with a big ghostbusters sticker on it.

Reactions from people who first saw Ghostbusters as a child. For those of us who saw it as adults, it's a comedy.

It's obvious when this fails and the 21 Jump Street/Men In Black crossover makes money, Sony will recruit Tatum and crew to revive The Ghostbusters with Ghostbusters 24.

I like the Jump Street franchise and would have rather that than the Ghostbusters' new cast. I enjoyed how they made fun of themselves with the fake sequels at the end. Then the real sequel turns out to be even more outlandish than any of them.
