The NBA had an image problem. That's why David Stern implemented a dress code.

The image of the NBA had become too thuggish, and it was turning a lot of people off.

That is quite true. It peaked with the Malice at the Palace.

Been remarkable to see the culture shift in the past decade plus. Now it's more of a hipster league, one could say.

college basketball is just BAD. it's so much worse than the NBA.

Most people who prefer NCAA wouldn't argue it's a better product. They probably just prefer the authenticity of the game or have a rooting interest.

In my experience, the folks more into professional sports (particularly NFL) are the guys who didn't go to college and are still wearing jerseys into their 40s and getting in fights at NFL games.

CBB has just gotten really ugly to watch over the last decade or so, being an LSU fan also hasn't helped.

the tourney is about the only time I get interested in CBB. Horrible way to crown a champ, but a fun watch

this, but they won't even say that. they say "oh there is just no defense in the nba" or "there is no 'team ball' in the nba, it's just a bunch of superstars jacking up shots".

Well it's true! I hate the NBA.

I don't understand threads like this. The whole tired narrative of NBA >>>>> College is one of my least favorite on the MSB

NBA and CBB are too long of a season for me. College starts right near the prime time for college football and I don't pay attention until around January. I grew up a fan of Alabama sports and went to school at Troy. Neither have a great history of basketball. I also grew up going to SEC basketball tournaments. I guess I like tournament basketball more than the season. I'm not one to just randomly turn on a college basketball game. Much more likely to watch any random college football game. I love the NFL playoffs and NBA playoffs though. I'm also a Raiders fan and until recently they've stunk so my interest in regular season NFL waned. I tend to think many people are like me in this regard. Unless your team has historically been great in a sport you don't really follow it as closely in general.

I like college over NBA. But I don't have an NBA team to cheer for so that probably plays into it.

the NBA playoffs dont hold a candle to march madness.

and thats the only time most of us watch basketball so NCAA basketball does provide more entertainment although it only really lasts 12 days

If someone doesn't like the NBA, I just assume they don't watch it at all.

There isn't a single reason why CBB would be more entertaining than NBA basketball. I realize we all have opinions...but goddamnit my opinion on this is the best one.

Colleges are on a more level playing field and there are more teams close to you that you can follow and become fans of. Plus with the smaller local coverage, its easier to keep up with.

I would rather watch NCAA than NBA except for 1 team.

I like the differing strategies, but the shot clock lowering it is making it more unwatchable. The NBA and NCAA is 2 completely different games.

I don't like either but do enjoy March Madness because of the finality of lose and go home. I watch State when I can but the referees have ruined it for me. They seem to let them play more in March Madness.

Most basketball fans I run into like the NBA, not college BB. March Madness notwithstanding. That's a novelty to watch, not just for basketball.

That's because you're from Texas and there are 3 NBA teams. All of which have been successful to a degree.

It was all the rage growing up for people to shite on the NBA regular season, lack of defense, lack of care, etc

Styles make matchups and those have been taken away with the shot clock going lower.

I would like to see it back at 45 and I think you would get more flow and less iso play. The lowering of the clock has actually made it easier for Power schools to succeed also.

those people like the "passion" and "intensity" and seem to love high school ball inordinately more too.

i think it comes from small-town myopia
