You have a few options.
1. Southwest plus instead of premier. Only $69 fee. SW Plus. That's probably where I'd go if I were you since it provides the most flexibility for scheduling.
2. Second would be the Citi AA Platinum for 50k points. AA/US air have a decent amount of flights and award space is pretty wide open in that market. Plus you'd get 10% points back using the card resulting in only 45k points for 2 roundtrips.
3. The Barclays Arrival Plus card. You'll get $440 worth of travel expenses credit, plus you'll get the 10% back, so you'll have another ~$45 to spend on something like uber/cabs.
The main reason I suggest that card, is that you could book Jet Blue flights. If I recall correctly, Jet Blue is the only carrier out of MSY to provide directs to BOS. That's very important to me. It's fairly common to see those flights run $125-$200/way.
The Delta card is a fine card and like Bacon said, the companion pass is a nice perk as well. I just don't like to put all my eggs in the Delta awards basket since it doesn't offer transparency and if you aren't flexible it could deem your points worthless during your travel period.
Need more info on where and how long you're staying to recommend hotel card. The Barclays Arrival Plus would also be great for an Air BNB stay.

Couple of general questions for anyone that can advise.
I just applied for a rewards card with CapitolOne(Venture) but was turned down because I rarely use the credit card I have with them. It's the only credit card I have and I've had it for 2 or3 years. It's the only CC on my credit report. I pretty much only used it for travel. My credit score is fine(750ish) and they did open a new Platinum account for me with no interest until April of next year and a generous limit. Wife and I have started putting everything on the card to pay off each month. How long should I wait to re-apply for a rewards card? Is the CapitolOne Venture even worth it?
We only fly once every 2 or 3 years, but we do use hotels several times a year for personal travel. Neither of us travel for work. We live in Birmingham, so flight options are primarily on Delta or Southwest. We have started planning a trip to Hawaii spring/summer of 2017(her parents 50th anniversary) so I'd hopefully like to have enough points by then to use on that trip. I'll be kind of constrained on hotels as there are 3 families going and I'm not planning the trip, so need one with flexibility. I'd say our monthly expenses we'll put on the card are ~$2,500.

Chase Freedom. Then get the Chase Sapphire Preferred so you can transfer points from the Freedom and then transfer points out for miles to transfer partners.
There's a Delta and Southwest branded card but with your limited credit profile the Freedom is probably the easiest to get IMO.

Wow, awesome replies. Definitely going to look into the Citi AA Platinum; not sure if the Delta Platinum fits my infrequent travel, but I'm also considering it. SW Plus looks like a definite better option than Premier, as I don't have any impending foreign currency transactions. Leaning toward SW Plus at this point as I don't mind indirect flights.
Planning to stay around 4 nights. Don't have any specific plans while there, just interested in checking out the city, and as long as there's access to public transit with Uber/Lyft as a backup I'm cool. I was thinking about combining a 2k/3mo spend airline offer with maybe an IHG or Wyndham 1k/3/mo spend offer to get 2-3 free nights.

The North End is great and very walkable.
I'd do the Barclays Arrival Plus for the hotels and I would Priceline name your own price function. You could very well get your whole stay(or close to it) covered by that card alone if there is an average or below average demand for your travel time.
Betterbidding is a good site to see what others have won.

Looking to get a new card. What are yalls thoughts on the Chase Saphire Preferred vs. the Capital One Venture card? Along those lines, it looks to me like if I chose to go with the CSP that I should get the Chase Freedom card to compliment it.

Chase is tightening down on the Chase branded cards. If you want a Freedom and CSP I would get those before applying from other credit card providers.
That said, the UR points are more flexible. You can actually transfer the points to partners which IMO is better that paying for a ticket and getting reimbursed at .01 a point.

I'm looking to sell some of my points. Do you have any idea if there is a black market type exchange for this?
Posted on 6/23/15 at 3:12 pm to I Love Bama
There is. Of course getting caught risks forfeiture, closure and banning
Posted on 6/23/15 at 3:20 pm to I Love Bama
I've only seen it talked about here and there. Haven't actually looked into it. I have read the price you'll get won't be very good either.
I think some Google search work might find what you're looking for if you still want to go for it

Got my Delta Platinum today. I guess I need to cancel my Gold if I don't want the $95 annual fee. I had the Gold since May 2014, but I didn't see the annual fee hit. Suppose I could cancel now. Make sense?

Unless you have 7 figures plus in a program, it's probably not worth it IMO unless you're hard up for cash. You'd be better served booking flights for somebody you know is travelling and seeking payment from them.

Was it here that someone said they called Discover and asked for the double cash back promotion o ntheir prior existing card?
If so, what did you say and was it easy? I'd love that

Yeah, I communicated with them via email/chat and they enrolled me. Easy peasy.

Found a gas station that sells OV's in the $500 variety with a CC. I bought one with my Amex BGR at 3x. I'll clue you folks in after I pick up my 6 after the first of July since last time I posted my spot, I found some that somebody attempted to hide .

Somewhat unrelated: Has anyone seen the recent steals to Vietnam?
I can fly from Nashville to Ho Chi Minh City for $646 in October.
