I just think we are missing that last component that makes us a national title kind of team verses a 10-2 team. We have a very good defense, a very good offensive line, great RB's. I just think we need to have a little more balance and better efficiency at the quarterback position. It will do wonders for our running game as well. I am not saying throw the ball 40 times but it will help tremendously being able to be more dangerous passing the ball. Attack all parts of the field. We have players like Dural who can beat you deep, Quinn is a sneaky fast player who finds holes in the defense. Dupre is very good as well. We just need to get the ball to them consistently. While Jennings has gotten better and he has to improve being consistent and hitting the shorter and intermediate passes. I think its correct move to start Jennings, he should. Come spring time, I really think there will be a major QB battle between Harris and Jennings. I think its Jennings to lose at this point but I like the direction we are heading. Lots to be excited about

my 83 yr old cousin was a "help mac pack" fan in the 60's and to this day is anti-lsu coach. she never went to lsu, (no college) and comes from your attitude. yall think yall are fans because you are negative of anything that isn't perfect.

tigernatl, i think you are probably a good guy, but your posts are mostly all negative.

this is another common theme from negas (not necessarily you). "we should have won more championships."

the problem with this thinking is that it refers back to my earlier post. the teams that are running a strategy that is alternative to lsu's are not winning more games. miles mitigates offense risk vs how the other 2 phases match up against the opponent. he does this better than anyone not named saban. the proof is that he wins more games than anyone despite playing in the toughest division of the most competitive era of cfb.

there's no way to prove that IF lsu had done this or that differently, they would have won more games. what we know is how it turned out and miles' record speaks for itself.

miles can't control who plays in the ncg. he can control who plays in the sec cg and in that regard, he's as good as anyone other than saban.

So if this is the philosophy, why do we continue to recruit 4 and 5 star QBs and WRs to not use to the best of their ability. If I were a 4 or 5 star athlete, I would really have to take into consideration how the current crop of athletes recruited the last couple of years are being "used".

I'm enjoying this win but Pumpers are going overboard with this BS. Having concerns about the QB play in this offense doesn't mean you are shitting on the dang team.

The Defense played lights out. What happens if they played at 80% of that, Ole Miss probably gets a score and wins.

Jennings needs to calm down, obviously Miles has attached his wagon to him, he needs to make reads and progressions and take off if nothing is there. And no more fumbles from the RBs.

If we get that and continued improvement on defense we win out.

Because the defense played absolutely out of its mind to keep LSU in it. Not a single person would be happy about the offense if the score was 21-10.

This is the source of most of the animosity on this board. Our QB play is mediocre at best. That's not being negative, it's being realistic. Negative is saying the defense is still as bad as it was at the beginning of the year, because it clearly isn't true. Negative is maintaining that we're obviously a program in decline, even after the leaps and bounds we've improved by in the last few weeks. Speaking an unpleasant fact is not being negative.

I'm reminded of the scene from the movie Troy after Brendan Gleeson is killed, and Sean Bean says something about him being dead, to which Brian Cox says "My brother's blood still wets the sand and you insult him?!". Bean coolly replies, "'Tis no insult to say a dead man is dead."

'Tis no insult to point out legitimate problems.

So Miles fumbled the ball twice and missed a chip shot field goal? You know we should've had much more than 10 points. It wasn't the offensive philosophy that hindered our scoring in this game. We attacked their weakness effectively, but unfortunately made some mistakes on the way.

As you wish . . .

We have two in-division losses. We do not control our own destiny. We need help from a lot of different folks although we are not mathematically eliminated from the SECCG. In our 2 losses our O scored 3 pts vs State (in a meaningful sense) and 7 vs Auburn. Last night we scored 10. An "offensive philosophy" that performs like this is nothing to brag about.

Les still needs to put the ghosts of '08 behind him. If he had, we may very well be in control of our own destiny.

As one of the other posters well noted, Les doesn't get enough credit for integrating O,D, and ST's. OTOH, he needs to be criticized for the non-competitive slop we saw vs State and Auburn. What was the game plan there?

We didn't win last night because of his offensive philosophy, but in spite of it. At present, the offensive philosophy is a huge factor of why we're in the predicament we're in.

That is just really ignorant. I think anyone who watched last night that was not a supporter of either team would not agree with that. Did our defense play out of their minds awesome? Yes.

But to say we won in spite of our offensive game plan is ignorant. Please tell me...go back and watch the game...really watch it, and tell me when Ole Miss stopped the LSU run game. Why fix what isn't broken. We made some mistakes sure, but without two fumbles, a missed field goal, and the dropped floating pick near the end zone, you are looking at at worst a 16-0 game.

Do I want to have a balanced offense? Yes. Who wouldn't. But clearly the strength of this football team is o-line and rb. Our weakness is our qb. Our defense stayed fresh because our offense had long, sustained drives. We wore those dudes down and made them quit.

Go back and watch that beauty of a 13 play 95 yard drive...12 runs...let that sink in. They couldn't stop us. I just don't understand how hard this is to comprehend.

It shouldn't have been close but Ole Miss was opportunistic and we weren't. And we still beat them down. The gameplan was overwhelmingly effective. Our execution just wasn't always there last night.

Miles offensive philosophy lends itself to a great defense

Running the spread does not always lend itself to great defense

I saw NFL teams all day run the exact same system as LSU. If QB play is such a problem, isn't it smart to limit the QB?

Against Seattle, Denver ran two TE, two WR, one back for three quarters and struggled. In the 4th they spread the field, went three wide and moved the football. Denver has manning, we have jennings. Big difference

I think cam and miles run a slimmed down pro offense and take shots downfield when they can.

They don't have the practice time preseason like a pro coach does so they have to improve QB play with game reps and in season practice. This is a slow process unless the QB is special.

I'm perfectly ok with Miles' offensive philosophy. I don't want to throw it 40 times a game, if we're running like we have been. I think 15-20 pass attempts a game is perfect. However, we've got to improve our efficiency passing.

Jennings #'s for the year:

72-144
1190 YDS
50.0%
8 TDs
5 INTs

Jennings doesn't have to be Mett, but if he can increase his COMP % while decreasing his INTs, we're gonna be tough to stop. He has great weapons out there, Dural, Quinn, Dupre, and even Fournette out of the back field. We're running over people, even when they know we're not a huge threat in the passing game. Just imagine if we are a threat to pass.

Nothing ignorant about my post. We are in a predicament of which our O-Philo is a major factor. We already have two losses. For us to get to Atlanta we need a lot of help from UGA, Auburn, Bama, and OM.

The O isn't defined by a single drive vs OM or a game. But the season as a whole and championships at the end.

We can win out and there's still a chance to get to Atlanta. I have hope. And I don't think this team has peaked at all. But to put our future in the hands of four other teams when we scored 10 meaningful points vs State/Auburn warrants rethinking some things.

The funny thing is, if LSU goes in dry on everybody next year, which could well happen, Miles will be seen as an innovater and there could be a resurgence of power football. Everything goes in cycles.

Like most who fancy themselves "positive", you can't celebrate a great win without bitching about other fans. To answer your question, however, yes, ANY offensive philosophy works great when you hold the opponent to 7 points.
