In the end, there really isn't any need to debate Miles' talent as a coach. Either he will improve the team or he will continue to go 7-5/8-4 and be terminated.

Eventhough I agree Saban is not coming back to LSU Saban contract means sh!t. No buyout means they can't fire him but he can leave anytime...

I read that all the time. Why was LSU's talent in 2006 and 2007 so much better than Southern Cal's, Texas's,Florida's,and Oklahoma's ? Now,I guess you could say LSU's was 'better',IMO that's debatable, but I don't understand how LSU was "loaded, way more talent than anyone".

Whether people dislike Miles are not, those teams had to be coached. They didn't just show up on gameday.Honest.

True. I have never understood all of this "Saban loves LSU" nonsense. Why did he flirt with an NFL team every off-season ? LSU wasn't paying him $9 an hour. More power to him for taking another, higher paying job,but the "he loves/loved LSU" is just silly.

The only way I see him leaving Tuscaloosa is if he does indeed win a NC and either Notre Dame or Penn State opened,up those are possibilities.

BaySide-thank you for a really rational post. IF you weren't a Gump, you would be OK.

I see Miles as an offensive guy. When Lsu hired him I said to myself "I hope he doesn't kill our defense" and to this day he has done just that.

Sorry I didnt realize Miles won those games himself
you're bringing up a point that i always remind people of: IT'S NOT ABOUT MILES. it's about the STAFF. in that regard, lsu's staff is as good as any. people who criticize miles continually forget that one of the skills a coach must have is getting good assistants. miles appears to be as good as anybody else at that particular aspect.

I thought it was because we have had way more talent than anyone else and still manage to not live up to billing.
lsu has NEVER had "way more" talent than everyone else. NEVER. the only team i can think of close to that are the bear bryant teams where he hoarded good players on the sidelines to keep them from the other teams. people want to prop up the sec as the best but have the unreasonable expectation that lsu's coach should walk all over the opposition.

quote:

His NC is with two losses even. We backed/lucked our way to that crystal football.
prove that lsu wasn't the best team in the country that season.

quote:

The 2006 team was BY FAR the most talented and should have never lost a game.
this is a totally ignorant statement because talent alone does not win games. scheduling, chemistry, officiating and plain old luck are involved too.

i'll make the same point i make EVERY SEASON: every team has fans that question the coaching, including florida. since that's a constant, the question is, which coach wins more?

except for last season, lsu has had one of the best defenses in the toughest defensive conference in america. heck, even last season there were some stats that lsu was middle of the pack in the sec.

"kill" does not even come close to accurately characterizing lsu's defense under miles

Since after the 5th game of 07 the defense has gotten progressively worst without question or debate

I guess you missed all of LSU's recent bowl victories under Miles. Either that, or you're just a dumbass. Can't decide which, but I'll go with the latter.

Are you that fricking stupid? So, did you not enjoy our NC? I'm guessing you didn't because you're bringing it up as a negative. How shitty is some of our fanbase...when we can even criticize our coach for winning a national title.

If we're so lucky to have been in that game, why wasn't anyone else in it?

you're right, talent alone has kept miles afloat in the toughest conference in america. nevermind that he has a fantastic coaching staff.

again, i offer as exhibit a, lsu v auburn '08. by most subjective standards, tuberville was outcoached in that game.
