I was only interested in rebutting the perception that Saban is the only elite coach in existence

but see, this is where all you saban lovers have it wrong. Saban and Elite should never be in the same paragraph. If he gets there in the future then thats fine but he has done nothing elite in his coaching career. He has a losing bowl game record, how can that be elite?? Every year, he loses to a team that he has no business losing to, how can that be elite? Decent coach, far from elite. As I said before, Ill take Miles, you can have the little tyrant coach.

Someone had to get in. LSU was the other best team despite having two losses. It was a chaotic season and anyone that got into the game would have had some "luck" in getting there.

And, he seems to do a decent job recruiting.
Stupid much?

And,for the record, this isn't about Nick Saban. Yes, he's a great coach and has turned Bama around. But, Saban is gone.
Are you ignorant of Saban's ugly wins and losses to poor teams? Does that somehow escape your piss-poor analysis of Miles?

I'm going to be looking for you during the year to see how you cover yourself for these comments. Saban lost 3 or more games a year except one. He blew calls that cost us games. We weren't an elite team until Miles got here and led us there. Saban did well for what he did but it took Miles to get us the rest of the way.

Hmm. I seem to recall us being an elite team in 2003, when we only lost a single game and won the national championship. Call me crazy.

I don't consider Georgia among the elite.

Well, Georgia has certainly handed it to us the last 3 times we played them under both Saban (once) and Miles (twice).

We need to at least play 'em close before we start peacocking in relation to them, elite or otherwise.

I'm still weeble-wobbling concerning Miles. Great record here from the start. But in 07, we were ranked #1 twice during the season and choked both times. In the last game of the season against Arkansas with a national championship staring us in the face (with an SEC championship win), we had no way to stop McFadden and the unranked (if I remember correctly) Razorbacks in our house. The defense in the latter part of that season under Miles/Pelini really started to fall off. 4th and 10 for Arkansas in OT, and we drop back for about 6 seconds until Casey Dick can find someone open and keep the game going. We were just fortunate that 2 other teams ranked in front of us lost, or Miles wouldn't have that championship. He didn't have the team focused enough going in to that game. -- Didn't care for him much at that point.

"Damn strong team" statement before SEC championship -- got me back on his side pretty damn strong.

08 season looked like everything fell apart. -- Started to question Miles again. What happened to "LSU doesn't rebuild, they reload"? We do reload every year with 4 and 5 star athletes across the board, so why wasn't the gun firing? Co defensive coordinators? Miles idea to promote Miles buddies. Rookie quarterback? Alabama has a rookie QB and rookie RB this year, don't they? If they go 10-2 or 11-1 this year, that'll be a little better than us last year at 3-5 in conference.

This year is a big year for Miles. No more of that "whose recruits" stuff. They're Miles. Jefferson has experience and Jarrett Lee has experience. Chavis has been doing his thing a long time and SHOULD know by now how he can make this defense stellar quickly. I hope 3rd and Chavis doesn't prove to be the case all year.

With all this said, I AM NOT A NEGATIGER. I love LSU and I'm just concerned after the game against Washington. I think Miles is a classy guy, and I think he loves LSU. I know it's just the first game, but I think we all are ready to see a ferocious defense, a very capable offense, and a team that will vie for a championship again.

Strong post TigerTicker.

My biggest (only?) complaint with Les is he has no vision of dominance on defense.

Unless I misread what Carl wrote earlier, Les basically directed Mallory-Peveto to continue with Pelini's approach (even when they would've done things differently). IOW, Les was ok with Pelini even though as you mentioned we were so mediocre on D down the stretch in '07.

What we saw last week against UW was vintage John Chavis - fully consistent with his track record at Tenn. No one should've been surprised.

I think our D will get better. If they can hold our opponents under 30 pts I think our O can be good enough to win every game.

If Les would only demand dominance on D I wouldn't trade him for ten Carroll's, Saban's, Meyer's put together.

Do you even watch any of our bowl games? If you had then you would have seen him out coach every coach in every bowl game.
