I have a love/hate with Barbera...whenever one bottle hits home the next is a total miss. I find myself really loving Langhe nebbiollo a lot more.

We did hot the Spanish wine tasting at Windsor court...the somm is very nice and knowledgable. He has a way of expressing his opinions and inviting comments that works well for a seated tasting. This cult wine, Commando G, was probably the star of the tasting.

Not sure if true, but my connections (may or may not be mafia-related) inform me that he is leaving to become the somm at Marcellos and that the owners of Marcellos have secured a downtown space for a second restaurant which will be French. Take it for what it's worth.

Agreed, he has a way of striking the right tone that is disarming and enlightening.

Very interesting. I still haven't made my way over to Marcellos, but hear good things. I didn't think John would be there very long.

Thanks for the tip!

Had this recently and thoroughly enjoyed it.
It's a Merlot but drank like a Cab.

After hearing about Pride for months, it was nice to finally have a bottle. It lived up to the hype.

TA, you'll love Pride. Their facility is top notch, as you'd imagine. And, the view, well... you're up on Pride Mountain--it's ridiculous.

Their wine club is a really good value, as well. Been members for a while and it gets better each year.

Also, try their Cab Franc. 09 and 12 are both singing right now.

2012 Balius from St. Helena region...it was $30 from Martin's and was highly recommended by Cedric. We laid it down for 6 months per his advice. It is likely a floor cab since there weren't that many tannins...though the bottle could have been laid down a bit longer.
The higher alcohol was balanced by the other properties of the wine.

This is a really nice cab at that pricepoint...it drinks like a more expensive bottle for sure.

It was paired with a wedge salad then 30 oz. Porterhouse and broccoli au gratin.

To my taste . . .
1. La Chapelle - luscious
2. Chave - identifiable and treasured rhone funk

3. Guigal - the purest example of rhone style though less interesting than chapelle or chave
4. Chapoutier sizeranne - can't recall without my notes

It was a long weekend.

90 Chave is an absolutely epic wine, one of the best Hermitages ever produced.
