It's a chain ONLY to Birmingham. Get over the "chain" moniker.

Some people are stupid and just judge places by how much meat they get because they don't want to feel like they're getting ripped off

I dont consider this being stupid. It is the most expensive ingredient in the burrito. When they dont give you much of it and load on everything else, you are essentially getting ripped off.

It also depends on who is making it.

Izzo's is the best of its kind that I've had. Better that Moe's, Chipolte, Qdoba, Salsarita's.

Chain

Izzos is local in the sense that the founder lives n Baton Rouge....and still "owns" all the stores.....not a large corporate company with a board of directors pimping out franchises......

Chain? Depends on how u define it....Izzos probably has 8-10 stores

To me, thats very local.......

Have you tried that new Mexican joint at the Summit next to the burger place? The burgers in there are damn expensive for the size but the talent (waitresses/hostesses) is pretty impressive.

U talkin about Concha Superior by the Five Guys/Zeas? Or actually in the Summit? I thought CS was decent for a high end mexican chain..... Believe I like Cantina Laredo better tho.

Didnt mean to highjack....

they give you a little amount of meat. the chicken looks like the crumbs you scrape off the bottom of a bbq pit.

although they will give you 10lbs lettuce, cheese, and other stuff you dont really want a lot of

This. If they would actually give you a nice portion of meat it would be pretty legit.

Don't get me wrong.

I'm not saying Izzo's is going to be bad because it's a chain. Or that all chains produce poor food.

I just feel like here in Birmingham whenever people decide they want to open up a restaurant, they look for an already successful business model that will make them money.

It's smart economics.

But it's boring culture.

Especially at The Summit where Cheesecake Factory, California Pizza Kitchen, Chuy's, Macaroni Grill, PF Changs thrive.

But at what point are you so worried about not getting ripped off that you're actually getting something that doesn't taste as good?

They put enough meat on there to justify their prices

I prefer Chipotle over Izzo's, but Cafe Rio is by far the best of its kind that I've had. Next would be Illegal Pete's. Had both in Denver.

Does anyone remember Kokopelli's in N.O. off of Claiborne? It was really good. Is there any chance Izzo's compares favorably to it?

I don't mind Izzo's, but I'd rather Felipe's over them anytime.

That's what I figured. I'd go to that place virtually every Saturday after playing racquetball at the Reilly Center. How yuppie of me.
