re: 6 hour layover in Amsterdam - Tigerbait46
Not to mention, nothing even opens until 9 at the earliest, including restaurants. None of the neighborhood markets start until 9. Even places that claim they open at 9 won't open at 9. We got into city centre around 8 a.m. in March, and there wasn't a soul to be seen other than a city work...

The market looks like a great recommendation. My layover is actually next Saturday so hopefully it's open in the winter....

re: 6 hour layover in Amsterdam - Tigerbait46
Sounds like I'll really only have free time from 7:00-9:30 AM which limits the activities I can do. Kind of like the idea of just walking around a bit and hanging around at a coffee house or cafe for breakfast and coffee. Afraid I'd lose track of time if I hit up a coffeeshop!...

re: Cell Phone Service Abroad - Tigerbait46
Yeah I see the argument for a very short trip, but I'll be traveling for one month minimum, and possibly for several months across several countries. The more I think about it, the more I lean towards Project Fi, even with the Verizon termination fee....

re: Cell Phone Service Abroad - Tigerbait46
But the OP should call Verizon and verify the phone can be used on a GSM network as that is what most of the world uses.....Verizon uses the CDMA network.
From what I've read, the phone can be used on GSM. I can actually change my network settings now to only connect to GSM....

re: Cell Phone Service Abroad - Tigerbait46
Do you know if Project Fi’s coverage abroad is equivalent to the coverage provided by Sprint's and T-Mobile's international partner carriers? Since Project Fi relies on these two carriers, I would think coverage would be the same....

re: Cell Phone Service Abroad - Tigerbait46
Yeah after a little research I learned about my blunder. It still may be worth paying the early termination fee, however, as the expected cost savings from project fi over staying through the remainder of my Verizon contract may actually may be more than the fee amount. My only concern with othe...

Cell Phone Service Abroad - Tigerbait46
What's the most economical way to have a working cell phone while abroad? Does the answer differ depending on region (Europe vs Asia vs S. America)? I currently have a google pixel with Verizon, but I imagine it may make more sense to get a different phone while abroad. ...

re: Travel Insurance/International Health Insurance - Tigerbait46
Man, looking at these options really grinds my gears when comparing to ACA plans. Low premiums, low deductibles, 100% coverage with reasonable maximums... what's the catch? Am I reading these wrong? Silly to think that travelers are subject to the ACA individual mandate fee for any month beyond ...

Travel Insurance/International Health Insurance - Tigerbait46
I'm traveling abroad for 1 month minimum, possibly 2+ months starting in February. Does anyone have experience with travel insurance or international health plans? Any recommendations? At least one month will be in Greece but I'll be in contact with refugee camp residents. Any travel beyond t...
Fair point worth further investigation if true, could you please provide some sources for your statements, particularly the one regarding the demographic makeup of the refugees as well as their distribution.
I'm wondering why they go to Europe instead of the many surrounding Muslim countries where there is less of a culture barrier.
Only 10% went to Europe. Surrounding countries like Jordan and Turkey are taking the bulk. Also, many of the people headed to Europe already had family th...

re: Cooking a whole tenderloin for Christmas - Tigerbait46
Got assigned cooking the beef tenderloin yesterday for a crowd that liked their beef cooked medium well! I obliged, cutting the meat in half to cook my half medium rare, but it was a bit painful seeing such an expensive cut of meat turn gray. On the flip side, they're easily pleased so it was...
