I've never had the illegal burrito but my meals usually cost $12. It's pretty much the reason I never go there anymore. It's decent but not worth the money.

The secret is to pass on the chips and drink. That's where all these restaurants make their money. I will get a regular chicken burrito for under $7 tax included. Steak will run you less than $7.50 with tax. Pass on the chips and salsa/queso/guac and drink water instead of Coke.

Once you get out of the habit of automatically adding chips and a drink to these kind of meals (sandwich places, burrito shops, etc), it's amazing how much money you save.

it is a direct copy of freebirds (the three burrito sizes, the flavors of the tortilla, and the ingredients). and it sucks more than freebirds.

I hadn't eaten the entire day, and was driving past Izzo's in the afternoon. Really wasn't a challenge.

Ok, you got me. Although I've heard of most, I've only dined at Mona's. Yea, I need to get out more. I'll bump this thread when I get around to eating at some of these places.

the key is to stay local. these places won't set the world on fire, but they have decent, hot lunches for good prices, to say you can't eat for under $12 just says that you are eating at the wrong type of places.

I do eat local and still come out to about $10 every time. Every now and then I come across a lunch that is under $10.

pull into a place full of blue collar vans (plumbers, electricians, contractors) in the parking lot and you will find yourself some cheap food

Come to my Restaurant, FLIP

I'll give you the best bacon and cheeser and fries you've ever had for about 12 bucks!

Why do you close your milkshake machine 45 minutes prior to closing?

The steak tartare burger was spectacular though.

We don't have a machine, and its not closed before the restaurant.

Come by and see me, I'm the Executive Chef, I'll give you a free shake since you could not get one on your last visit. I'll be looking into that.

are they hand mixed then? Sounds like a great way to build up your triceps.

and I thought everyone knew that "the shake machine is closed" is just BS for "I don't want to make you one"

We use high tech blenders and Liquid nitrogen...

Something you don't see everywhere.

I've had the milkshakes before. They're excellent - especially the Captain Crunch.

But a friend of mine and I went there exactly 3 weeks ago today. I guess that was June 1st.

We were there about 45 minutes before closing and ordered burgers. We went to order our milkshakes with the meal, but my friend said he wanted to wait until we were leaving to get the shake to go.

The waitress said ok.

When we got our burgers delivered, we said we wanted to go ahead and put in our milkshake order. She said, "Sorry, we're not making them anymore tonight."

I thought you might want to know the details.

DIRECT copy from freebirds anyway.

Good advice. Kim Ahn, La Profecia and Red WagOn can easily be done for less than 8.00. I went to La Profecia today and the grand total was 7.92.
