Supposed to be better than 14 and close to 13s.

Dont get him pappy yet...build up each year and let him enjoy it all along the way and figure out what pappy is before you give him some. I would look for EHT single barrel as well as others mentioned. Or the single barrel and the rye so he can experiment with 2 different profiles...both are delish and both can be found rather easy for 60-70ish.

I don't know much about premium liquors. But Matt Moscona tells me 10 times a day on 104.5 that Carriage's in Baton Rouge is selling "Pappy Van Winkle Bourbon Balls." It's a clothing store.

I've got a bottle of the 10 year and 12 year sitting at home and can't help but think "That could be a lot more Blanton's"

I almost broke into the 2013 during the Arkansas game, but better judgement prevailed and I just turned the TV off instead. I got my dad one from that year as well, so I think I am going to get him to crack it open so I can actually taste it.

I had a glass on Halloween. It's liquid gold. I have no idea how my friend found a bottle or what he paid for it, but I enjoyed every sip of the glass he poured me.

A liquor store/bar in Auburn carries it. I have ordered a shot on two occasions and sipped on it for about 20 minutes. You could check with them:

Dunno what they're asking per bottle though.

They have the 10, 15, 20, and 23.

I think the gift basket idea sounds best. A couple nice bourbons and throw in one of the Japanese single malt whiskies that seem to be the big craze these days.
Seems like a Japanese whisky has won "best in the world" a few years in a row now.

If you've bought him these and he's been impressed, he has no idea what pappy is and you're wasting money. Buy him an eagle rare and be done.

If you've given him these and he drinks pappy, he's laughed at you as soon as you walked out the door and poured them out

I would just buy him a bottle of Blanton's. 95% of people who drink bourbon will be happy receiving this as a gift. If he just mixes it with coke then you are only out $55.

shite...

Broke, like others have said I would search for WLW 12 or 107, I have had zero luck in LA, but every trip to Houston I make I can find a Specs that has some in stock.
If you are dead set of PVW, get on the bourbon groups on FB and you can find them on there for less than 2K.
Even if you just wanted to go 500 ish, you could take your pick of BTAC.

I need a bottle for a gift. Actually any of the Van Winkles will do. And I don't want to spend $2000

If you can tell us what you do want to spend, we could probably help you.

If you wanted something special for around half of that try getting a 4/5 quart very old Fitzgerald from his birth year. That's what I would want.

Make sure he actually appreciates good bourbon first or may the Gods strike you down for putting a bottle like that in a jack and coke persons hands.

'd also recommend Garrison Bros. if you see it.

Just finished a bottle of their last ever spring time run and I have a bottle of their first run of single barrel. I enjoy the shite out of it... Haven't cracked the single barrel yet. Good folks out there.
Runs about $80 for the cowboy bourbon.

and $130 if I remember correctly for the single.
