re: Iverstine Farms Butcher Shop - Jackalope
Like every other ambitious restaurant/business in BR, I give it a 90% chance of never opening due to all the red tape the city/parish government imposes. I hope it happens however ...

re: What's your go-to hot sauce? - Jackalope
Tabasco for almost all Italian food and on étouffée, in gumbo, on any egg dish, and most gravies. A Harrissa for Middle Eastern Sriracha for most Asian Tapatio for Mexican/Salvadoran/Honduran but usually never on Cuban/Brazilian/Colombian/Peruvian/Argentinian...

re: Austin Food Rec's - Jackalope
I'll piggyback off this post any east Austin recs? specifically around Cesar Chavez and east 6th?
An absolute must is Licha's Cantina. Delicious food and drinks (Mexicio City-style cuisine). And their Happy Hour is one of the best in town.
Honestly, I think Little Deli ha...

re: Recommendations for Austin around UT - Jackalope
There is the hotel at the AT&T Conference center. It's very big. But I would prefer staying downtown or anywhere else near other attractions and just commute via Uber/Lyft. Also look at Airbnb.com or HomeAway.com
The other end of 6th down toward Opals is a lot older crowd. More laid...

re: Has the Foodtruck trend peaked? - Jackalope
Ran across the "foodtruck roundup" Saturday in Laffy and there were 4 trucks. A couple of years there used to be at least a dozen. Was it just a fad or is just a pain in the arse to run one?
I think for many small or mid size cities, it was a fad that couldn't be sustained. It's st...

re: Whiskey/Bourbon/Scotch appreciation thread - Jackalope
Has anyone tried the Jack Daniels single barrel rye? Just saw it in a store but it was $78. Probably wait until next week when I am in Tn to pick up a bottle.
It's usually $55, so go to a bigger store. It's enjoyable and different. It's rye, but has the Jack Daniels taste of ag...

re: Austin trip suggestions? Food, drink, live music? - Jackalope
Yes, there are worse places. I'm just bitter because it's nothing compared to what downtown Austin used to be. It's overcrowded and insanely trendy now. 10 years ago it had a much more unique vibe to it. Some of those places still exist, but are becoming harder to find.
Meh, times ...
I'm just that guy that will appreciate that I am drinking a cocktail in a room that was someones living room 75 years before.
Haha, no, those houses were being lived in less than 8 years ago. Yes true, people were living in them 75 years ago, but as recent as 8 years ago. I'll t...

re: Is there a Local restaurant that has lost your business forever? - Jackalope
Shake Shack. I've been to Shake Shack three times now because people I work with want to go. I just don't like it. I love the idea behind it, but there's just a lack of general flavor. It's all a bit bland. The concrete ice creams are fantastic however....

re: Aeropress help - transitioning to unsweet coffee - Jackalope
If you don't like unsweet coffee, why bother learning to tolerate drinking it? Not being a smart arse at all.
Nobody like black coffee at first. It's like scotch. You have to tough through it and acclimate to it. Once you do, you'll never go back....
